    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

THis is a made over 2000 KX65 A-1 ( short seat height) that my son Logan helped extensively rebuild !

He'll get a few more track rides on his CRF 50 along with a few initial True Beginner Class Races with MOTOXKIDZ at Star West...and then onto the 65.

im lucky were i live at we have the big field brucie can crusie around in. be ready for some wheelies and screaming 1st and 2nd gear rides hahaha i know our kx60 will be ready for a overhaul this winter. i have to say they are very dependable little machines though i wish all the 2 strokes started as easy lol have fun!!
 
Hey T, can Logan kickstart his?? My son still hasnt been able to yet.

Logan is able to kickstart his CRF50 just now this spring (he just turned 7 in April) but honestly gets lazy every now and then and has me do it. I've learned that a day of Moto is much easier if I sacrifice some time walkinga round helping him start his bike.

Still somewhat awkward when kicking ... much better this spring over last fall.

I have a brick planter that I have him stand on with his left leg so that he can learn the motion with his right leg with out being afraid the bike is going to fall on him. A few times doing that and it builds their confidence quickly. Try it. Bring a small well balanced step stool to the track with you for the same purpose.

He is working up the courage to start the KX now. I purposely bought the older 2000/2001 KX A-1 due to the fact it is 2.5" shorter than the newer KX 65's.

The bike looks tall in the pics here due to the fact that it is sitting on my 450 stand. In the picture of LOgan sitting on it by the pool you can see that he is almost grown into it . He is very tall for his age. Tallest in his class for age 6/7.

Most kids you see on two stroke 65's are 8 to 9 years old. The only difference between this bike and a 2011 KX65 is the linkage dogbones are longer and the fork tubes are longer on the 2011 . The motor, plastic, etc are all the same... 2000 thru 2011. Exception is the exhaust is very slightly different after 2002.

i think im goin to have him at least trying to start it everytime instead of me doing it rite off the bat weve got a milk crate ill bring out with us next time. hes not the biggest kid so i dont get too pissy about it. at least the falls are gettin less and less frequant and i dont have to run over and get the thing up and goin near as much. weve got an adjustable dogbone on the one we have thank god, i had to lower it quite abit. i just showed my son logans bike and he goes "whoa dude, thats cool!!"....its only money, rite?? hahahaha

Total cost $873.00 ( $500 for the bike. $373 for parts - I'm tighter than a frogs butt underwater...) having all the time in the world allowed me to be very cost conscious when making purchases. Got a lot of great e-bay steals on new parts etc... plus a few local area hookups and a few cases of beer sliding over the counter helped****************************************

Building a nice bike doesn't necessarily have to take a lot of money.

T, dont forget once you get Logan on the 6-5 our crew has OV701s kid and MS18s kid on 65 and 50 respectively. Also OV701 is an official licensed Pro FIM MX instructor, come out with our whole crew to (best) Pala for the kids track (the safest and easiest to monitor). The 2 (fast) kids can lead/escort, Logan around the track. keep in touch R

Cool... ! Would be great for him to have some kids to drag him around and show him more ****************************************! was thinking of signing Logan up for the Perris/Pala sixpack for $60... Tuesday nights for $10 at Perris with kids only riding the main MX on Tuesday nights... Cubscouts is over for the summer and baseball is doen until winter ball in September so I have two months to play with.

Will contact you regarding Pala. Would love to get down there.

I took Logan to Milestone again last night and he rode the Adult Vet track with with me for about an hour and a half on his CRF50. Getting ready to let him try the 6-5. He is now putting it together quite well..

I did the same thing for my 7 year old a couple months ago. Got a 2000 to take advantage of the lower height. So far it's going great. He's ridden it 3x and loves it. One thing I learned is that the jetting is different on the 2000's and 2001's compared with everything newer. Different slide and needle and a leaner main and pilot. The guy before me must have thought they were all the same and put in the new spec main and pilot. First time out it ran just ok, but something wasn't quite right. I took the carb apart and looked at all the jets and set everything back to stock for a 2000. Ran perfect after that.
