Last year I persuaded my younger brother Mark (this is a relative term, he's 52) to ride the Washougal WORCS race on my 2011 TXC511. His current ride is a 250 2 stroke of a strange orange hue. The man is freaking fast and the current holder of the #1 50 Expert OMRA GP plate. Well, he was not impressed with the 511 at Washougal. He got around fine but fought it all the way and ended up with a flat front tire... strangely the same tire I had flattened when I broke my wrist a couple months before...hmm.
Fast forward 9 months... TXC511 now has the JD 6X with standard settings installed just after that WORCS race, a new front tire...turns out the bead was broken on the old one so no wonder it was squirrely...and just last week Bill at BMP Husqvarna in Salem did the 2012 shock lowering trick. Other than that, same bike.
To prepare for the Funky Chicken we headed out east of LaPine, OR to weave around the jackpine forests and climb a few hills with both my TE250 and the TXC. A nice combination of high speed straights and sweepers, several modest hills and lots of twisty turnys through the woods. Greased Lightning (aka Mark) rode the 511 first. We did a dozen miles and then stopped to wait for me to bring up the rear. Before I could ask Mark says .....THIS THING IS FREAKING AWESOME... its fast, the powerband is incredible, the throttle response is perfect, it turns great, it tracks great... WOW ****************************************!!
So I says..."you wanted to ride the 250?" "Well, sure I will give it a try" He spent an hour on the 250, trying to get the hang of keeping it at 8000 rpm and up and started to have a pretty good time. But eventually he said "can I have the 511 back?"
Greased Lightning will be riding the Funky Chicken this year on a bike with a certain stunning shade of RED
Graffunder and Greased Lightning at the Funky Chicken...has a nice ring to it.
