  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

You can get rid of the catch bottle and run a overflow hose. Also replace your battery with a new ion unit. you'll save about 5lbs. or more just by replacing the battery.

If you're running heavy duty tubes, you might save a couple pounds by converting to the Tubliss system. If you're running regular tubes, you won't lose much weight with the conversion. Also, do a little research before you buy tires and get the lighter ones for your terrain. For example, I think that Maxxis tires are pretty heavy compared to, say, Michelin/Pirelli/Dunlop.

I second the move to a lithium ion battery--lots of weight lost there.

You can probably grind off the cast-in mirror mounts from the lever perches--good for a couple ounces.

If you're going for light weight uber alles, then forgo wrap-around handguards, steering damper, skidplates, disc guards...of course, if your terrain necessitates this gear, you'll just have to put up with the weight.

You might want to investigate Ti exhaust systems--you can probably shave a couple pounds that way, too. Of course, sound is an issue.

Ti shock spring.

Run the minimum amount of fuel needed for the distance you're racing, plus a bit as a safety margin.

Lose the headlight and tail light if you haven't already.

cheers guys thanks for the reply didnt know the batterys were that heavy and same for the tyres as it happens i am running maxxis.
i take it the overflow hose would just hang by the rad like on a 410 i had and i take it the standard pressure cap would be ok or should i replace it for higher or lower pressure cheers
