  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

What are you running and in what conditions are they good or bad at?

I have the Pirelli Scorpion MX front and rear on. These tires absolutely do not like wet slick conditions. The rear does not hook up and is all over the place fishtailing, could not get a good run at anything. Front washed out on me several times as well. With the very aggressive brakes this bike has the overall confidence of doing anything went down the drain. Not sure if they are only good for MX track but i dont ride track much.

Recommend me a better tire.

Opinion....were equipped on bike when bought used. Couldn't wait till conditions became favourable for first rides and was out in the sloppy snotty mud early April/May and was amazed at how well these hook up. Had the rear positioned for "Dry" and STILL got me through chassis burying mud and frozen slick snotted off camber terrain. Had replaced the rear with a Kenda trailmaster at the recommendation of local riders and have to say.....will be replacing this tire with the MOTOZ for the upcoming season on the WET direction. Rear tire is a little loud on pavement where as the Kenda was super quiet...not a priority for me though ;)
 
What model scorpion do you have? The Scorpion MX comes in several compound types. I use the Scorpion XC mid soft in the spring and the Extra in the summer when its more dry. The extra crosses over okay to wet conditions but is a little harder compound so it doesn't loose the edge so fast in the hardpack.
 
I ran Scorpion XC MS first and now have the Motoz Enduro IT and it seems great. Both were/are good but IMO the Motoz is better and lasts longer.
 
I was just looking at getting a set of Pirelli XC mid/soft ... ive heard good reviews from riders are here (PA) ... what do those MotozE's run? and do they come in different compounds
 
I run a Dunlop MX51 IT rear in a 110/100 and a 80/100 front IT Motoz enduro. For me it works good but my terrain is hard pack clay here but I ride up north which is mainly sand and rock. This works for me. I hear the S/T Motoz is even better than the IT and the IT is great.
 
We run a combination of rear tires, but only one kind of front and that is the Golden Tyre 216AA fat tire. We have not found a single tire that can beat it in any terrain and it is also DOT legal. You will see this tire on the Team Husky bikes as well as on Andrew Delong's 310 in the past. :)

Not exactly sure, the front has MX Extra and MST and the rear has MX Extra NHS.

All conditions sans heavy sand. Technical steep hills, rooty, ruts, tight trails, cambered/off cambered, rocky, hard pack. It just started raining here in NorCal so wet conditions are here. Dont do MX. I might get on a MX track and rip around for a little bit and have fun but not my cup of tea anymore. The tires i have on definately aint cutting it for wet slick conditions. Just need an all around good tire.
