    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Ok guys I've had my Terra for about one month and 1100 miles and I get the feeling something isn't quite right with my bike. Over the course of ownership I haven't seen anything better than 48 mpg, with 45 mpg as standard.

I'm in Chicago and over the past month we have had temps ranging from 30-65 degrees, which is cold(relative to summer and the locations of others in warmer climates) but really not that cold at all. Chicago is also basically at sea level.

I have been riding mostly suburban roads and highway with some urban city traffic thrown in there, but it's not like I sit idling for an hour in gridlock or anything.

Does this seem normal to y'all? I really feel like I should be getting better MPG's

What kind of MPG's have you guys been seeing in your respective climates/elevations?

I've also been having that lean condition/stalling in the low RPM's like everyone else has been reporting. To the point where ideling along in first gear it feels like I am literally 10 RPM's from stalling. I can't even take off from a standstill without adding in some throttle and feathering the clutch.

I had the bike in to the BMW dealership for the 600 mile service interval and reported the problem but they weren't getting and fault codes and "claimed" they didn't feel anything like I described when test riding the bike. I also mentioned the low MPG's and the tech didn't seem to even know what I should be getting.

What do you guys think? My bike a lemon or what?

Any thoughts about what I should do?
 
I have 800 miles on the clock, mpg ranging from 53 to 61. All above 5000 ft elevation, mixed highway/city (50/50), temps ranging from mid 40's to mid 70's.

My bike has stalled maybe twice but once it was cold, and in general it idles fine and does not seem to have a lean condition. I do have to fan the clutch a little from a dead stop.

Sounds like you might have a problem, hope this helps.

For yourself and anyone else looking to respond I just thought of something. My ambient temperature readout on the dash is completely inaccurate, showing it to be way warmer out that it actually is, to the tune of 15-20+ degrees Fahrenheit.

So is anyone else having an inaccurate temperature readout on their dash? If so, is it coupled with any problems like low mpg's or stalling?
 
My first 1324 miles averaged 49.6 mpg. My thermometer seems very accurate.

I'm 6'4 280 so I present a high load, both in mass and surface area. :-)
 
Ebrake,

I've been reading on AvdRider thread that the air temp sensor feeds both the instrument panel and the fuel injection system. So I'm thinking you're on to the problem. This product called Boostr Plug spoofs the FI into thinking the OAT is 30 or so deg less than actual, to get a richer fuel mix. So if yours is reading hotter than actual then that might explain the lean performance.

Same for me at 1500-5000 ft.
 
Ebrake- did you buy your bike at MCC? I think I saw you heading the opposite direction on the Kennedy at maybe Foster or so... Or at least it was another guy on a terra.

Have you sorted out your stalling issues? My bike was doing all the same stuff aside from the funky temp readout. I'm finding that my new 14t countershaft sprocket seems to completely mask the problem... I can get the bike rolling using just the clutch and zero throttle. Have you spoken to the dealer?
 
I checked my fuel consumption yesterday over a 24 mile section of mountain highway. The indicator said 0.35 US gallons used. MPG = 68+. I hope that's accurate. Around town, mostly in lower gears I'm getting ~52.
 
After having my stall, stumble fix my first ride was 46.2 MPG by the instrument panel. Historically, it's averaged 1.7 MPG less than pump receipts, so I'd say about 48MPG. I've pointed out previously that at 280, I ride two up all the time! What do you folks getting the high numbers weigh?

I also noticed recently that the Husky web specs are now saying "over 55MPG." I thought they use to say 66 or something like that?

I weigh 180, and I don't wind it out very much. That high mpg I posted above happened with me deliberately trying to stretch the mileage. It was over a short distance (24 mi), so I don't know how reliable it is.
 
I got 51 mpg so far, at 600 miles. First 2 tanks were 47 mpg during break in. If I go easy on the throttle, I see 55 mpg no problem. I love this bike.
 
I got 55mpg easy off road riding and saw 57mpg on road doing 70 mph with my front sprocket down one tooth. My buddies stock bike got about 1 mpg better in both situations

Some times...:D I was riding forest roads/jeep trails and getting after it for sure, but on the secondary roads I was fairly mellow. Probably 20% dirt on that tank. Previously I was around 45mpg. I'm going to try some mellow riding on my next tank and see what happens. But seeing my reserve light come on at 123mi surprised me! 132 mi & 3.3 gallons used.

That still seems way off HD1. I was getting 58 mpg with Terra 1. I have not checked Terra 2 yet, but I know I have ridden 160 miles without a fuel light coming on. I am eager to check it now. Any fuel in your oil?

The bikes would probably get 0mpg if the front wheel was off the ground all the time. :D

I've not measured it, but my instrument cluster says I've averaged 57mpg since new.
