• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Lectron carb tuning guide

Need some help with some adjustment, I just installed the 144 kit and for it to idle right the adjustment screw is only almost closed and can't seem to get it run to be strong down low. What do I need to do?

As in screwed way in? Go a 1/2 turn richer on the rod.

What are you guys doing for cold weather adjustments? I just put my old lectron on my new 300 and had a bog just above idle leaned it out a 1/4 and made it nice a crisp top end is perfect but I like to be a hair rich for wide open sand spots. I set this at about 55 degrees but will run it in 20-30 degree weather. Pic of plug after initial set up is below.

just run your PJ a little rich and you should be fine.

Hey all, i installed a lectron a while back, it took some tuning to get it right, i had to go richer on the needle.

Its a bit hard to start cold as well as hot. Any tips? I think it needs another 1/4-1/2 richer on the needle. Could that improve starting?

Make sure the slide returns almost all the way down. If the slide is open to much your bike will be hard to start.

as I am waiting on throttle cable that Lectron did not ship to me, I took the top off to look at the rod and make sure slide operates smoothly and does not stick. my carb came with 1-xl3 rod.for 09 WR300

question, do you guys have Rod adjustment tool? shouldn't one come with carb? what do you use to adjust the rod?

thanks!

No tool needed. Just fold a thin chunk of cardboard over the end and then turn it with pliers. Always 1/4 turn increments and then you MUST reindex the rod so the flat side faces the motor.

thanks Kelly, when reindexing the rod, there is a bit of rotational free play in it so it may or may not be perfectly square to the motor, is that normal? I have not measured amount of free play, but I would say +/- 5 degrees on either side form perfect square.

(do you think my throttle cable will arrive before weekend?)

yes the bit of slop is normal and is fine. Yes, cable shipped. I'll Pm you the tracking, says it will be there tomorrow.

Kelly

Can you explain exactly what you mean 1 1/2 turns out on idle screw.

Out from full in? Sorry does not make sense.

Bike started but with difficulty and sneezed when started. Will not run with choke on when cold, and opening throttle from idle it hesitates first. Can you call me? 917 797 236five

I asked Kevin from Lectron to call and help you, I believe you guys got it sorted? Or at least are working on it?

all right.. final update for tonight, before neighbors set my house on fire..and no time to run it thought the gears

I am at a point where bike starts fine (hot) idles great and throttle response of idle is instant.
if rod is 1/4 turn leaner, I need to be at 1 3/4 - 2 turns out on idle screw and if rod is 1/4 turn richer, my idle screw setting is 3/4 out.

David from Lectron said it does not matter at this point, but I prefer more adjustment range so I set the rod where Idle screw is at 1 3/4 turns out.

I will let it cool overnight and play around some more tomorrow if weather cooperates. I am curious how it will start tomorow when cold.

Kelly, your thoughts on this?

Hey Kelly,
do you have recommendation on powerjet screw setting for WR300 with stock header? I am beginning to suspect that bike is overly lean, can you check my video and let me know if you think this sounds lean?

... and I'd want to get to a good starting point...

plug chop tests in my neighborhood can land me in some trouble..

I responded to your other post. Sounds like other that rode your bike say something is up with it and it did not have full power with the stock carb either. Somethings up. As for the vid really hard to tell. Seems rich on top to me and most of the Lectron come setup that way. Try your top ends runs with the powerjet at 1/2-3/4 out from full in and move up from there in 1/4 turn increments until the top end is the best. You plug in the other post looks good but a bit rich.

thanks, I am thinking there is something else going on.. do you think I can find 10+ more HP with PJ tunning? in another thread you did not mention powervalve.. you don't think it's powervalve?

No, i don't think you will find 10+ HP with the tuning. Somethings up. Might be the PV, might be an ignition issue. Does not seem like it would be a vacuum leak as that would show up more on the idle and low end.

Kelly, so my power issues are related to flywheel weight I had on the bike. With it removed, bike rips. Found my missing horses...

Having said that, it seems that I have to re-adjust carb to reflect freer spinning motor. It starts great and of idle response is great. There is now slight bog when whacking throttle open in higher gears. Slight bog than instant power. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Try turning your PJ in (leaner) and see what happens. These Lectrons are kinda different in feel as to lean or rich. You get a feel for it after a few adjustment sessions. Might be the rod is slightly off as well. theres only 2 adjustments and no parts needed, play with it and get it fine tuned.
