  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

lawsuit VS.Husqvarna 449

I'm gonna unwatch this thing now ... Just not interested in hearing more on the subject ... I guess it is a fitting end to the bmw saga ... I'm also a little afraid to say anything, but you gotta laugh when you think about this bike from start to finish ...

I don't know how real this part of this bikes' saga is or how it will play out, but anything written here just might can be used in a court of law I'd guess ... You have been warned or enlightened or talked down to ...Take it as you see fit. There is crap written all the time on peoples tweets and other methods of todays' communication being judged ...

And I'm with the ZIP-Ty guys ... I know I can't help if any of this comes to a be real, but I'm still on your side. Period.

For starters, if you have all ready started, or are in the process of starting the litigation process, I would HIGHLY advise AGAINST any personal opinion (and documented comments such as posts) in a public forum. Your council should have advised you of the same. In terms of getting support for your cause, a simple post advising of the oppertunity to join is sufficient. Any other comments become evidence and emotion is a mute point. Whilst I sympathise with the situation (and understand your frustration), unless FACTS are presented by an EXPERT witness and PROOF OF NEGLIGENCE regarding the fix/repairs (or lack of) are detailed, you're in for a long ride (longer than the ones on your 449 anyway!)

End result (5-10 years down the track and IF you're lucky) will be an acknowledgement of the issue and a publicised apology. Perhaps reimbursement for the cost of your parts. I hate to say it but that will be all.

I am guessing the OEM liability lawyers will be busy with the GM case... OP, your case is going to be a tougher row to hoe than the GM key switch issue. You are dealing with an organization that has sold the stake in Husky two if not three times each of which to another foreign business. You are looking at tens of thousands of hours and years and years of litigation - I think five just scratches the surface.

The ONLY liability that Husky would be looking at would be a flameout related fatality. Very widespread and well known issue with numerous bulletins that could result in a traffic fatality - we are just lucky is has not. Even a "sure thing" like that would take years and the original plaintiffs would all split about $50 while the lawyers all roll in a mountain of cash. It's just the way the system is built.

If you want peace - part the bike out and move on. There are plenty of part shortages that you can come out ok. New 449/511 are selling int e mid 5k range, so resale was never much of an option anyway.

Life is too short to be bitter.

I may of misread something, but I don't believe dirttracker had any issues with us at ZipTy.
I did my best to resolve this issue early on in developing my oil system. I actually put ^+73 horsepower to my torque limiter which I measured at 242 ft lbs. But, I also run 1300cc of Mobil1 0W40/SS filter and religiously change my oil. That being said, there is a stronger torque limiter in the works which no longer uses clutch pads and still allows for give to prevent breakage. I foresee many many years of life out of these engines and they are one of my favorite engine designs.

If only they had valve adjusters instead of consumable parts. That would be awesome!
