  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Large black tuning knob on the Keihin CARBS

What is the purpose of this large black knob on the Keihin CARBS? No luck looking online so far ..

Seems to do something to the idle but not really sure ... My 08 TXC250 seems to have finally fallen a victim to the gas here (maybe due to sitting too long) and I'm having just a little trouble getting my response back to previous days ... I was twisting here and not so sure what I'm really doing ...

that is the idle adjust... if it isn't working, it is possible that the cable is seized.

when I had my 510, I adjusted them separately. I set the fuel screw at around 2, which is approximate. Then just adjusted the idle to my liking.

Thats sort of what I'm doing now ... I think that ethyl tarnished my CARB all up when I allowed the TXC to sit because when I took it apart due to bad performance, it looked very bad inside and now I can't get the idling back and some of the 1/4 and less throttle response is less than adequate I think ..

yeah, with shoddy fuel that happens, can wreak havoc on carb internals. Make sure you didn't lose the super tiny o-ring that goes with the fuel screw. That can cause mal-adjustment/performance issues. Sounds like a good cleaning, maybe a new pilot/main is in order.

Once you get it up and working...I would suggest using Startron ethanol fuel treatment. It works!

Thanks and I'll keep my eye peeled for that ... You never know what will show up here ....

Those tiny ones are there but seems like that specific 0ring was a little flat looking like it lost its flexibility maybe ... I'll probably order some of the internals or match some up here if possible and the pilot jet did look bad ...I tried to clean it and it did help but the still seemed a little too sluggish the last few rides ...

I like to shut off the fuel and let the bike run all fuel out of the CARB if I think the bike will be parked any length of time to keep the carb dry ... Not sure how much that really helps but my pitcock on this bike will not shut off so the bike just sat a few weeks with gas in it ... :(

The black knob adjusts the throttle opening/stop, the fuel screw adjusts fuel/air ratio. I would replace pilot, the ethanol gas here takes its toll here and I also shut off gas and run it empty. Not sure about the accelerator pump and how it is effected.

New jets, maybe orings ... Startron additive if found, dry CARB when bike sits up ... Twist the throttle open as much as possible when riding :) ..

Thanks
