  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kush Sprockets

Just a quick little initial impression report.

I finally got a little break in the weather so I went out and fitted up my new Kush sprocket and off I went to put it through it's paces.
First things first.
Fitment: It bolted up just they it should without any trimming, beating or forcing. Of course we should expect that but it's always good when it actually happens.:D

Riding: I didn't think that I would actually be able to feel the difference on the 610 because the 610 has a cush drive in the clutch so I was pleasantly surprised to find that you really can tell the difference. I took it out for a about a 30 mile loop and hammered it hard. Power up wheelies, clutch up wheelies, backing it into corners, skidding it into corners, power shifting up and hard downshifting. It's amazing how much shock it took out of the system, everything was so much smoother.

Reliability: Well it's a little to soon to say how well it's going to hold up over time but I gave it a pretty good thrashing and all seems well so far.

I'll do a more thorough report after I get some more miles on it but my initial impression is very favorable.

Thanks a bunch for the report! I can't wait to try mine out! Our streets are going to be clear in about 5 days and I'll see if I can get mine installed be then. The ribs had joined together so I'm just waiting on the chest muscles to tone down a bit and I should be able to throw the bike around and get the test in.

I couldn't believe your positive report, if Kushsprockets drops the manufacturing of this product, I'll have to create my version of it, too good of an idea to pass up!

Thanks again!

Thats more or less what i got. I hope they didn't go under, no joke implied. I like the concept.

Well the site you listed seems to be suspended but the site I ordered from is still functioning, http://kushsprockets.com/ although it seems that they are out of stock on everything. Maybe they are still trying to catch up on back orders.

I hope the ribs get better soon, I'll be interested to hear how the sprocket performs on a 450 which doesn't have the cush drive built into the clutch. I would think that going from nothing to take up the shock to something that does will be even more noticeable than mine was.

rafobigguy and others,

Well, I finally was able to install the new kush sprocket on my 2009 TE450 and this afternoon, shortly after the rained stopped, I gave it a test drive.

The results were so surprising that I ended up staying out there for a few extra miles just to make sure I was really feeling the difference, I guess I was questioning whether there ever was a problem in the first place! At speeds up to 75 mph, I felt only a slight chatter in the gears when cruising, ever so slight at that. As a matter of fact, at all speeds, I barely felt any form of chatter and that included hard acceleration, throttle pumping and wheelies.

Rather than head home, I returned to a private stretch of road and hammered it countless times just to beat it up a bit. I also ran a long stretch of straight road to see if there was any feedback from the drive and all I got was the hum of the chain. My average speed on the straight runs was around 50 to 60 mph and there was virtually nothing to make the ride uncomfortable.

The fear if it failing suddenly hit me and I couldn't wait to get back to the garage to see if one of those cushions had fallen out! Everything was as good as new and now my only concern is how long this great improvement will last. I love this sprocket, installs easily, the gear ratio is nice (I purchased a slightly smaller diameter sprocket for more top end, 3 teeth less) and all I can say is that I wish Spring were here so I could put 100 miles on the bike tomorrow!

I now have my Kush Sprocket and new chain. I'm waiting for my counter sprocket and some other stuff I ordered from Kelly. Once I get it all installed I report back.

Installed my Kush with new chain and counter, it fit nice no problems. Rode it 210 miles of mixed pavement tight single track and two track, it worked great. It reduced shock. My feeling is it will help to increase trans life and it is way less expensive than a buffer hub.

Thanks for the update, hopefully we can get a few comments on this sprocket, enough to make a decent sample of its performance. I had my bike out today but the roads are too snowy to ride very far and report back to this thread on my kush sprocket, first break in the weather and I'll give it a good run!

Ok, I've now got 1200 miles on my Kush Sprocket. It's been working great so far. I don't know it's there off-road and feel better about running down the pavement. Chain and sprockets look good. My friend has installed one on his KTM 530 after seeing mine. So far it's been good.

I've had my Kush for a half dozen short rides and it still looks like it did new. So far seems to smoothen out the ride pretty decent.

Couple things I noticed, heavy. 2- my original bolts are too short to pierce through the Teflon in the nuts. Better get some loctite.

Update on my Kush Sprocket - it is still in great shape, about 300 miles on it with mixed riding, it does appear to make a difference too. I can cruise at 40 to 50 miles per hour and I don't get nearly as much back lash in the chain at constant speed. I would appreciate hearing from others?

Mines still working great. I've got pretty close to 700 miles on it, most of which has been pretty aggressive asphalt riding. I'm still amazed at how much shock it takes out of the drive train, I'm sure that this will extend trans and engine life.

It looks like the largest they make is a 47T. Too bad they don't make a 49 or 50.

It kind of makes sense that they would go primarily with the smaller sprockets since the goal is to make dirt bikes more streetable, it isn't something that is really necessary for off-roading because you have so much tire slip. On the other hand it seems to be a good product at a resonable price so maybe they should look at trying to snag a bigger market share.

I tried to get my parents to order one for x mas. No reply via email. Does anyone know if they are still in business? I need a 50 sprocket
