• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kush sprockets for the husky

Huh...
I had my new sprocket in hand Thursday night, threw it on and went for a rip yesterday, it hasn't exploded yet.

The cushions on this new one are black too, btw.
The Kush Catalog has shown the 45T Sold Out for weeks now.

Anyone have any updates on that?

They should have some type of communication link on that Web site...........not just in ADV.

I've been watching that site for weeks as well, I want a 45T.

Does anyone have a slightly ragged 45T with worn rubber they want to sell?

I got a note from Ryan on 4/13/14 saying to check back in two months if I haven't heard from him. :excuseme: .

Anyone heard anything from kush sprockets lately, was thinking about trying one, but the website was shut down.

If they wind up vanishing, then a cush hub will be the only option. So far my Kush Sprocket is holding up just fine, but I know it won't be forever.

My second one (warranty replacement) that I just got this spring just finished squirting out all of the forward inserts. I emailed Ryan/Daniel a few days ago with no response yet, whereas last time they were back to me within 24 hours....

What kind of axles/spacers etc do you need for that swap?

You can read about the conversion on SMJ.

Need custom spacers at minimum, don't have the front wheel and brake on yet... but I'm 99% that it will work, just need some time to install the brake adapter and front wheel. Been riding the bike with the 21" front wheel and 17" rear for a while now Hah.

In case anyone was thinking about RAD Mfg for a cush hub, I'm here to warn you that it may not be a pleasant experience. I will be creating a new thread with my experience with their product. In short, all the bearings (3 of them) failed within 2500 miles, with one of them not even lasting 200 miles which I replaced prior to a big trip. At the tail end of that trip the other two bearings went kaput, as in wobbling and the occasional rear wheel locking. And of course you'll get nothing but silence from RAD. If I were thinking of a cush hub now, I'd pursue the KTM hub option.

I wish them luck, and that they can overcome what became, but I can't help but feel that these things have gotta have a pretty limited lifespan no matter how it's sliced. I'm in the camp that feels that the elastomers- simply owing to their small size/width- just can't take the incredible loads they're subjected to. I know some have gotten several thousand K's out of them, but that seems more the exception than the rule. As BigDom said I don't want the possibility/eventuality on my mind. Don't get me wrong though- I hope Ryan continues to develop the product beyond what it's been- I'll continue to watch.

I wonder if he'll honor my 2nd sprocket failure after lees than 1k miles....
I'm back to a solid right now.
