• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

KTM/Husqvarna... now how will this play out?

Well, I got into this Husky game because of my dealer, Bills Motorcycles Plus. In the end that may make or break any big changes .... if this deal is bad for our dealers then it will undermine Husky and Im very likely to start riding whatever BMP is selling.

With Husky as KTM's only direct competitor and the constant business pressure towards efficiency we are likely to start seeing red KTMs/Bergs sooner rather than later at our Husky emporiums. That may not be so bad, but if they take the next step and simply start selling rebadged KTMs or shut down the big H brand...... then things look a lot worse.

I'm sure we are over reacting and everything will be fine. :D

Already knew the 449/511 was to be discontinued after MY13. Not sure I want to invest in a new motor now unless it is made by KTM. At least with the 449 I know I can always get parts for it through BMW.

worried about parts availability for my 04 and... I don't want a Linkless Husky with all the left over crap that KTM doesn't want to use anymore...

TM or Beta or Sherco or GasGas etc here I come......

most likely Beta 350RR. only because TM doesn't have midsze 4T yet.

Ive told my Husky dealer before (Toytech) if he starts selling Harleys I might buy a bleedin 72 (New Sportster model).

I can see KTM taking Husqvarna and making it an entry level brand. They are already competing with themselves with Husaberg. No point in having another high end bike to compete with. Honestly, alot of Husky tech is old, but good and it would make an excellent budget friendly off road bike. I think that this deal has just killed any chance of a new 2T from Husqvarna.

My initial reaction was disgust, followed by sadness, followed by the alarming realization that 5 of the 9 bikes in my garage at the moment are Husqvarnas. I don't know...I just don't see how it can be good as I don't see KTM staying hands-off and allowing the boys in Varese to keep doing their thing. However, it was all doom and gloom when BMW took over and it was actually OK for awhile. Right? Please say yes. Please tell me I'm not just trying to sugar-coat this bitter pill so that it will be easier for me to swallow...

Maybe not, both Husky and KTM have been developing a DI 2T maybe between the two of them they can finally bring it to fruitition.

Life has a way of working itself out. I'm going to keep an open mind on this until I have good reason to believe otherwise.

I have nothing against KTM heck I own a 990 Adventure but it was nice to see someone else making waves in the industry. Apparently they were making to many waves.
