As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!
Great info, Thanks so much!! Stefan Pierer, I remember that name. I e-mailed him one time after 3 months of not getting my replacement part for my 2013. I was VERY frustrated and pissed off (as usual ;-) I can be an ass sometimes. Wouldn't you know it, I had the part, free of charge in the mail the next day! I think this guy is ok but the rest of the KTM/Husky support team don't give two shi*$ about the bikes prior to KTM.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KTM
KTM-Sportmotorcycle AG is fully owned by KTM AG (formerly known as KTM Power Sports AG). In November 2007, Bajaj Auto Limited of India acquired 14.5% stake in KTM Power Sports AG and increased their shareholding to 47% by 2012.
At present KTM AG is 51% owned by CROSS KraftFahrZeug Holding GmbH, a subsidiary of CROSS Industries AG and 47% owned by Bajaj Auto. CROSS Industries is founded by KTM's current CEO Stefan Pierer.
Bob, it is unfortunate, BUT YES I agree with you. In the long run. Better to have the Husky name out there then not at all. Took me awhile to come to terms with this notion, but you have a very strong point. To the victor go the spoils. The Italians made their bed, did it their way, and here we are. The "brand" is lucky to have Mr. KTM as a savior. The Italians, not so much. Sucks to be passionate about the Italian iteration!

saved a logo.
I'm still not over itBob, it is unfortunate, BUT YES I agree with you. In the long run. Better to have the Husky name out there then not at all. Took me awhile to come to terms with this notion, but you have a very strong point.
I'll just have to get over it.
The bike you own, would be my suggestion... on a trail near you! And if you want to bitch about something... Boycott Electrolux, they started the whole problem, by selling off the bike division, because it didn't fit their core product philosophy! What do you suggest we beat then?
Sorry for being borish. Yes... If I don't want to read it, I shouldn't and probably shouldn't comment. This has been hashed over time and time again, in the nearly past 2 years and I'm sort of tired of it. It's just my opinion, as the initial post is yours. What???? Who's bitching? People are just talking about what they think. No one is MF'ing anyone or trash talking. When I think a thread is dead, I stop reading it. FYI, I agree with you because I too think its dead, but not because someone told me it is. And if people want to calmly and respectfully keep talking about it, who cares? Not me, I just walk away from it when I've had enough. No need to tell people to basically shut up and go riding.
Now that you mention Electrolux, please share. This is something I was not aware of. I'd like to hear about it.
that's some good info. Thank you. Did not mean to be rude before. I just wanted information and to vent a little.Sorry for being borish. Yes... That said... Retail price to retail price KTM, did not double the price of the bikes. I bought at least 3 Italian Huskys at fire sale prices over the years. My last one, was my '09 WR125, which I bought, not as a leftover, but a newly released bike. With Husky Hero rebate and dealer discount, the bike cost barely more than retail on a '92 Husky WXE125. I was pleased as punch, but could tell then, it wasn't going to end well for Husky and BMW. You just can't constantly have a fire sale, when costs back at the factory to build a bike are somewhat fixed.
We can't turn back the clock and jump start Italian Huskys, so.... we all just move on, in one way or another. I still ride Swedish and made the switch to Italian Huskys and have now made the switch to Austrian Huskys. Both transitions were traumatic. My incomplete '87 430WR still sits in my cellar in pieces, because of parts shortages and lack of support by Cagiva for Swedish 2 strokes, after the takeover. I got fed up and started parting it out back then.
Electrolux... Everyone blames Cagiva for destroying Husky, but it was Electrolux that owned and ran Husqvarna, in its group of companies. Household goods, appliances, etc. Husqvarna sewing machines, forestry, yard and garden tools were what they wanted. Motorcycles were dangerous toys and didn't fit the corporate image and philosophy. The motorcycles didn't have the amount of success in Europe (the home market), as they did in the US and OZ. So they started trying to find a buyer and Cagiva saw a great oppurtunity, to expand their off road market and get the big prize, of the US Husky Dealer Network. So Cagiva shut down the Husky Factory and moved it to Italy. A great plan, that went all to hell in the end.
Husqvarna AB was spun off, into a separate company again, but still a part of the Electrolux Group. They actually toyed with the idea of build bikes again, before BMW "rescued" Husky, but that withered away.
BMW was just really the wrong company, at the wrong time and was too proud to sell Husky back to MV/Cagiva....
Apologies again, for my rude interjection.
Thank Fletch. I didn't know that this topic was debated so much. Haven't been online here for quite awhile. I can see now how people are tired of it. It is what it is and that's that. You're a good guy in my book to respond like a gentleman.oh its good to vent (I have done plenty) Its all in fun. KTM or not. I still don't go to KTM dealers nor will I ever buy a Husky from a dealer that sells them both.......
