kph to mph 09 speedometer

I have tried afew times and go out and mess with it every now and then to see if I'm doing something different. Read & reread the manual. I did a search..

What is the routine to get the speedometer to read mph instead of kph
on a 09 te450?

Scroll to the right window on the speedometer, pull the clutch in, hold the button down, use my forearm to hit the starter button... the thing doesn't go from kp/h to mph WTH?!?

Good luck, Riksha. I went through the same thing with my 09’ and was getting so frustrated not having 3 hands to do what the manual stated. I ended up holding the button down on the trip computer and cycling the key and somehow got it to work. I wish I knew exactly what I did but at that point I was so pissed off I was just pulling levers and pushing buttons and swearing a lot. All I remember is that you do not need to start the engine (I think). I will try to duplicate and post if I luck out and get it right. Sorry not much help but I feel your pain.

After a few seconds it will alternate between KPH and MPH for a few seconds each, press the button when it is on MPH.

Yeah, did that whole hand, foot, and knee thing too. When they say "Start", they simply mean turn the key to On.

That's the key right there. If you start the engine the computer locks it self into what ever mode it is in. Oh yeah it's helpful to have a pet octopus, a well trained one, to help with the initial set-up.

Man I had my wife out there handling the start button, I had the clutch pulled in, finger on the speedometer, looking at my wife tellin her the italians were having a good laugh right now....

This is from the TE 610 service manual (2006) but you may find much of it applies to other models. It's a better English translation than most.

4- 1st ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT warning light (the warning light comes on after 1000 Km/620mi. approx.; it is necessary to
carry out the Service Coupon A)
5- MAINTEN ANCE warning light (the warning light comes on after 5000 Km/3100mi. approx.; it is necessary to carry out the
Service Coupon B)
6- MAX ENGINE r.p.m. warning light (the warning light comes on after that the vertical and horizontal LED indicators have
completed their stroke: 8250 r.p.m. approx.)
7- GREEN warning light Blinkers

Instrument settings
This operation allows you to set the parameters of the instrument for use on
motorcycles with different characteristics (SM-TE). To begin the editing process
proceed as follows:
1 - With ignition off press and hold the MODE button
2 - With the MODE button still pressed, turn the ignition on. After around 7
seconds WS will appear in the lower right corner of the display. Release the
MODE button now to skip to step 8 or keep it pressed to continue to step 3
Setting w heel diameter
3 - Keeping the MODE button pressed, press the passing light switch 5 times
4 - Release the MODE button and the "0001" (for SM model) code will appear,
fig. 3
5 - Press and release the MODE button and the "0002" (for the TE
model) code and subsequently the writing "cu" shown in fig. 4;
6 - After selecting code (0001 for SM and 0002 for TE), press and hold the
MODE button until WS re-appears. Release the MODE button.
7 - Press and release the MODE button now to display the first of five noneditable
screens as follows:
"Ln" = development wheel (fig 5)
"di" = diameter rotates (fig 6)
"SPEED" = n° impulseturn wheel (fig 7)
"rpm" = n° impulse/turn engine (fig 8)
"max" = out limit turns (fig 9)
Setting units (Kilometers / Miles)
8 - Press and release the MODE button to show the Km/h - Mph screen
(fig. 10). Press and hold MODE button up to the appearance of the horizontal
bars (not shown) then release. A unit of measure will be flashing which is the
active units. Press and release the MODE button to change from Kmh to Mph
& vise-versa. Press and hold the MODE button until WS re-appears to accept
your selection
Setting oil change warning interval
9 - Press and release the MODE button until you see the oil change symbol
(fig. 11). Press and hold MODE button until the horizontal bars appear (not
shown), then release. You are presented with NO, clear? . Press and release
the MODE button to see YES, clear . Press and hold the MODE button until
the screen blanks. Release the mode button to see "0000" or the value previously
inserted with the first number flashing. (initial setting is 13h for the first
oil change) Shortly pressing MODE the number advances one, allowing it to
flash for 2 seconds the second left number will begin to flash. Set to the desired
interval. (See the Maintenance section for recommended intervals)
Setting the maintenance w arning interval
10 - Press and release the MODE button until you see the maintenance symbol
(fig. 12) Press and hold MODE button until the horizontal bars appear
(not shown), then release. Press and release the MODE button to select distance
or hours as the interval. (fig. 13 distance will be Km/h or mph) Press
and hold the mode button until WS briefly flashes in the lower right corner of
the display then release. Follow the same procedure as outlined in step 9. to
set the interval.
To exit setup cycle through the screens until END appears. Press and hold
the Mode button until the horizontal bars are displayed. The instrument will
reboot into standard mode. You may also turn off the ignition to exit setup.

Adding / Removing Screens
This operation allows you to add and remove different screens (functions) to the unit. The computer contains 9 screens in all. The
screens may be shown with the bar graph acting as a tachometer or a battery meter. (you must show one or the other on all
screens)
To begin turn on the ignition and allow the computer to complete it s self diagnostic. Press and hold the MODE button until WS
appears in the lower right corner of the display. Refer to the table for the effect on each screen.
Switch RPM / Battery Meter Graph
While displaying the RPM screen, hold the MODE button until WS appears. The RPM screen will be removed and the battery
meter will be displayed on all screens.(fig.11) To restore the RPM graph, restore all screens and cycle the screens until the RPM
screen is displayed

OK but that may take some time because dumb people like me have to figure out how to take full pages with images, one at a time out of a pdf file and post directly to a website without going to a clipboard and word document.

Only takes a small bit of space but we are down to the last 200KB on the hard disk.

While you are downloading things find Iranview - super handy photo editing program.

We may need to work on this later.

Ok you're right I'm going to have to do this later. I figured out how to get full page print with images on excel and I'm pretty sure if I send them to my E-Mail that I will be able to copy and paste into the Cafe posting window but I have to send them to me via outlook which I don't use and the wife isn't here to tell me what the pass word for out look is.
Can't say I didn't try.

I have a question for anyone with a '08 TE. My clock is showing up in Military time but my odometer reads in MPH. Does anyone know how to change the clock? When I reach clock I can hold down mode and get to set it but I do not see how to get it over to normal time. Thanks.

OOOhhhhh, I wouldn't mind that problem. Sorry, I've seen no mention of that in the 09 manual.

Update; Now that I am actually looking at the manual, it ONLY shows that it is 24 hour clock.

Ha.....! I was doing the same thing. Had my wife turning the key, starting the bike...... damn italians.
