• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Knee pads

Was wondering. What are you people doing for knee pads. My knees are fine, a little older but I would like to keep them that way. I was thinking about something lite- wieght, for small to medium get -offs as opposed to preparing for a complete catastorphy. Something that I would always were. I have been thinking about ones like Fox Launch pro or maybe something like Demon hyper knee pads with D 30. I cannot find anywhere local to try any on besides the TLD but I thought I they could use a little more side impact protection. I seem to be looking at the mtb downhill type pads.
Thanks

Been wearing these for 2 years...
I like them because of the wide strap going around the leg... just make sure they're on properly because the velcro can chaf yer leg and thats ouch.
I've been glad to have them on quite a few times.

i keep going back to my Thor Quadrant knee guards. simple design, fit me well, comfortable and work. used them for woods, MX and supermoto.

friend of mine swears by the Thor Force pictured above, loves them. i tried the Fox version, Titan Pro i think, and hated them. i need new guards too, not sure what to try but the Thor Force are on the list.

I know your talking about guards and that's what I used to ride with, but I bought some Asterisk Cyto Cell braces after tearing my right MCL. It took me all of 5 minutes to get used to them and can't imagine riding without them. I do wear a long undergarment I bought at Cycle Gear called Heat Out, so that the straps don't chafe me.

I also use these. They are comfortable, give a lot of support, and protection. They are not too expensive.

I am SO fickle when it comes to gear - I have tried a TON of options. Up until this year, the EVS Glider were the best on the market IMO. This year I bought the Leatt 3DF Knee Guards - they are AMAZING!

I can honestly firmly vouch for either. They both stay in place without exception (absolutely NO movement). They flex well and protect extremely well.

I know they are not cheap - but they are the Lexus of knee protection.

My buddy and I were hitting the trail and he said , I just picked up some new knee pads , I kinda laughed and said cool thinking my riding pants have enough pad in the knee and I don t race so I am not buying knee pads , My next trip was a nice solo ride and I came into a rocky corner to fast and grabbed a little to much front brake , being kinda new to dirtbike riding its amazing how quick you hit the ground and the first thing I felt was my knee , just cut up and bruised , next thing I did was get some knee pads and elbow. Sorry for the long ass story.

first thing i always tell new dirt riders... wear all the gear... but at a minimum... good helmet, googles, good boots and NEVER ride without knee guards :D

glad you made out OK, i've seen much worse happen after basic wrecks.

I wear these. 661 "Riot" model. Not the biggest and baddest but they work for me. I read about them on mtb sites cuz thats what theyre intended for. Complaints I read were that they slide down the rider's legs. Not the case with moto boots on tho. They never slide down on me. Theyre real comfortable too. image.jpg
