  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Anyone hear of or use a different - longer kickstart lever for the WR 300 ?
Wondering what may fit - its got that funny bend in it though so probably hard call

Just looking for a it more leverage for my chicken legs

yeh yeh - Ive been going to the gym - chicken legs are strongish and weight is going up - I think you need to be about 6 ft 4 to get good position to kick .
My legs may be a bit short for my height :(

Thinking about getting rear shock lowered 20mm - make it easier for pivot turns too ..

My stand has snapped because previous guy used it to stand up on it to kick .

Will try turning kicker back a tad thanks Norm -

When you say back on the shaft Norm - do you mean towards the rear

I ve also noticed the lever is getting torn up by hitting the footpeg

(For some reason I cant quote anyones message )

kicking these is an odd arrangement requires you to kick back then down
I have a 32" inseam and manage, but it's an odd arrangement for sure
the cases date back to drum rear brake and as such a competitive bike used a brake drum, sprocket combo on one side to keep hub weight down
most were left kick and even Honda did it one year
the later models got disc but used the same cases
if you look at the sprocket and realize the kicker needs to be above it then it makes sense
bad idea great bike, stubborn to not reinvent the engine all those years ago

use the reply tab, bottom right
yes he means back, did that to one of mine

Yep kickers get chewed. Had to rotate mine back one to fit gnarly but it is better. 2 teeth itie be better. Shitty side stands anyway

Do you stand on something when you kick it? I use a Stack On toolbox or the bike stand. If I'm going to stop on the trail I just make sure there's a high spot to stand on. I'm borderline chicken legged with a tender, crooked right leg

been looking for a kickstand for my 2006 wr250 for a year, and i cannot find them in north america, they only advertise them in .au. any tips on where to find one? thanks in advance.

Not sure I would have admitted that lol.... I would just make like I'm a 4 yr old again trying to ride a 10 speed. I would tilt the bike then pivot my weight onto the foot that needs to push down then go. Not sure that would work here.

 easier said than done. I can start my 165 1st kick with my left foot standing beside it. The 300 is a completely different beast.

If we are riding hard stuff there is no choice of where you stop - half the time you are stuck on a steep incline

That's when you really need the elec start

If I am leaning against a tree I can start it first kick easy

YZ 250 2t and ktms are much easier to kick start than this

I tried the kick start set back a notch and it as it was already back one notch it was too far down - not enough turn over

I quite like it at standard alignment - as far forward as possible as it gives a longer turn over and better spark

I have tried an extra base gasket to reduce compression and that didn't seem to do anything .

I think the tip of kicking backwards rather than down is quite good

I tried a YZ 250 f kicker and that would have been good if it fitted - different splines

By the way its seems to be fairly easy to start when cold and not when its hot - so I think the Ducati ignition may be part of the issue
