  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kickstart lever for 79 390WR engine

Does anyone know if a kickstarter from left kicker Honda CR would fit the spline on the 390 engine? Just looking for something friendlier than the stocker and more like the later Husqvarna kickers. Also I do not have the knuckle that mounts on the spline

Also, can a newer lever from like say an 85 or 86 single shock be adapted? I will still likely get the original off eBay and try to adapt something to the knuckle.

I am aware of the differences as the 390 engine is the only non primary kick and the rest of the herd is 82 and up. The question was can the lever from the later models be adapted to the splined knuckle I hope to get off eBay soon?

When I had my 1978 cr390 the kick starter broke at the knuckle . I also had a 1971 mh 400 . I tried swapping kick start levers and it fit , was able to use it until I was able to get a new one . Just an option to get you going .

I use a 73 on my 76 Auto if it is of any help, I don't believe there is another make of bike kickstart that will work

I was watching one on eBay but bailed out when the bidding went over $90. I do not consider myself cheap but I have to have a limit for a unit that does not seem to be well liked.

I am at a disadvantage as I do not even have a knuckle to put anything onto

let me go dig around jim, i know i have one that will work. it will likely be the the style that is fixed, with the swinging detent footrest. the previous posts are correct in that any of the earlier 70s work.
honestly, i rather liked this style when i ran my 79 wr250. long as it has a good rubber on it.

Sounds good to me. I just got in a con rod kit for my 349 Cota the other day. NOS Montesa Honda connecting rod with upper and lower bearings for $140 plus $5.95 shipping. I would be very happy if we could get them for Husqvarnas in that price range.

Let me know how much you want if you find the kickstart lever
