• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kickstand bolt stripped

Yesterday, while having trouble getting/keeping my bike running on the trail, I was kicking the bike with the stand down (not standing on it).
However, the bike leaned further over after a few kicks and I found the smaller bolt had stripped out of the frame and allowed the kickstand to over-extend. Now that bracket is bent.

So, two-fold:
Has anyone else had this problem (I don't think it was vibrated loose to start with as the threads inside have been pulled clear)?
I usually use bikebandit for parts because of the ease of use with their parts diagrams and good prices. What do you guys use? So far, I haven't found a site with a nice parts fiche similar to BB and other online parts retailers.

Get a new bracket, use a bolt and nut on the back side this time use Red loctite then check-it. They don't just strip the threads out it was loose and vibrated out beating out the threads on the way.

Thanks George.
I figured it couldn't have been backed out because it looks like the threads are bad all the way through. Regardless, I need to look over more of the bolts and make sure everything else is OK.

How much are those brackets and do you stock them?

+1 what George said.

The stock bolts were always coming loose on mine, eventually causing the bracket to bend.
Here are some pics of a similar fix I did on mine. I used gr. 10.9 bolts and double nutted the bottom one. I used red loctite on both also. Haven't had a problem since.
