  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Kick starting the extra lights! Tips and tricks

I know each type of bike and individual bike has its own characteristics and procedures.

Im looking for tips tricks and do’s and donts ref starting my te310. I was never able the kick my te 250 or my 05 te510[never had to!].

Wr! Every time

In two years of ownership I've never kick started my 250! Might have a go later just to check that it works!

Tbh I haven't tried to kick the 310 yet.
I tried several times on the te 250 and could not get it to start
Felt very little compression but was told that was ok

16 hours now on the 310

No need to use the kicker however I tried many times

A friend did it first kick!

I kick started it once!

definitely no throttle?

Slow push?

Quick jabs?

Find top centre?

As many have stated in other threads do not kick and push the electric start at the same time. It's one or the other not both.

I have a 2011 TE250 and I do kick start it from time to time just to make sure I can because you are right they can be tricky to start via kick. I have found the best technique is to make sure you are at the top of the compression stroke and then make sure the kick lever is at the very top of its ratchet cycle, then it takes full complete kicks all the way to the bottom. Cold start with mine it starts religiously on the 3rd kick, never on the first or 2nd. When it was new I could not get it to kick start until I talked to a guy who had the same bike and those were the pointers he gave me. Even on the 3rd kick mine doesn't start till the very end of the kick cycle. It has gotten easier to kick start with more hours on it though.

great post thanks
does your kicker crash down on foot pegs?

I’m getting pretty good at kicking the 310. Started First kick this morning from cold.

1. Get your left foot up high on bank, curb or log.

2. Push throttle forward [no gas!]

3. Ignition and red button out! Duh

4. Choke?????

5. make sure your are at the top of the compression stroke and then make sure the kick lever is at the very top of its ratchet cycle

6. Push don’t kick! I use my body weight! Slowly does it!
