  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi all, I'm new to CH.

Just picked up a new run out txc449 today. First run on Sunday. Will let you all know what I think.

It came with the akra exhaust and race map jumper so will be installing those Saturday.

Bike looks great, can't wait to get out.

Lots of good info on this forum, I'm keen to see how well she holds oil.

I'll be riding mostly trail.

Great bike. Get it dialed. The best bang for your buck is the airbox mod. Looking forward to a ride report

Hi All

Before and after pictures posted above.

1st ride was after a thunder storm in Sam Houston Forest, North of houston. The conditions were snotty and wet and it rained all morning.

Note header wrap in first picture (doesn't look that tidy any more) and absent LH OEM handguard in second picture.

It's the first time I've ridden single trail in heavy mud in a forest, so I was learning as I went along. The last time I rode a dirt bike was about 15 years ago (2 stroke suzi) on more open terrain - farmland and coal bings of Scotland. I've been riding street and track ever since.

The husky was phenomenal. My friend led the way on his KTM525EXC and we traded bikes for a while. My friend was impressed by the responsiveness and power of the engine.

I liked the torque offered by the 449, a few times I got seriously bogged - the puddles were more than knee deep in places - and the husky always had the power to chew through.

I found the OEM pirelli tires worked great in these conditions, though I did stack a few times - mostly inexperience and going too slow. After so much street bike/track riding it is weird to have both wheels drifting at the same time.

Importantly, the bike ran reliably and flawlessly. No flame outs and predictable responsive power all the way. I dropped the bike on its side in deep puddles more than once, picked her up and she started instantly and powered straight out.

I followed a lot of advice from this forum, installed the race jumper, akra can, did the TPS reset, seems to have paid off.

Given the conditions and my skill I didn't get as far as third gear, so will be looking to test the bike on more open ground over the next week or so.

PS. Only downsides of the bike (and they are minor relative to the awesomeness):

1) As noted by others, the gear shifter tightening bolt is near impossible to access
2) The OEM left hand handguard lasted 5 minutes in to my gopro video. From watching the video last night I know the puddle where she was lost. It didn't take much.
3) The seat is firm and I'm paying for it today.

Congrats on your new ride. Monkey butt is a real issue but seat concepts will cure what ails your backside.
