  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Just bought a 2014 WR300. What carb/jetting?

I cant tell you exactly what mpg I get now with lectron. But let me put it this way...I am now pissed at myself for selling my stock tank. The ims I have now is overkill. There's always gobs of gas left over now as compared to before. I usually do 40-60 mile trail rides.

This only indicates that the Mikuni was jetted richer than Lectron.

The Lectron is more efficient. You cant jet the Mikuni to run right and get that mileage. I've owned Wr250's since 99 when i bought my first new one. Lots of trying different jetting, JD jetting, Suzuki needle, YZ needle, this nozzle, that mod etc. still get about 22-24 mpg. I have a beautiful box of sorted jets and needles and nozzles and slides. I'm no noob to this game. Slap a well setup Lectron on and 28-32 mpg instantly and runs far better than the jetted carb could ever hope to IMHO. My opinion only and am perfectly fine with people liking there carbs whatever it might be.

I have been running with Lectron about 1,5 years and that carb isn't righ for me. i never get it run right. I do not want to undervalue the Lectron,I just wanted to bring a different perspective to the this discussion.

actually, I seized my bike 2 times with Lectron in a about minus 15-20 degrees of celsium after high speed running on a open road about half throttle. I live in Finland so i know what cold winter ride is:D

All feedback is good. That said there is no reason you should not be able to get it sorted and Lectron (and me of course) will bend over backwards to make it work. I bet you just need to set it up a little better for your fuel.

FYI I just played with jetting on my 2014 WR 250 and dialed her in prefectly wheelies with roll on throttle up to 4 gear. It is flat out scary now and I am almost tempted to turn her into a supermoto instead of a woods weapon.

Stock Carb
35 pilot jet
410 main jet
Stock Needle 3rd from top
Mix 42x1 Motul 800
Full Pro Circuit works Exhuast with fresh filter.

No hesitation or bog what so ever bike feels like its FI

Mate, go with the Keihin AirStriker - they are much easier to dial in than the Mikuni, easier start and also less tempremental. Also, change the spark plug to an EG - they dont clag nearly as easy if you go too rich on the jetting.

The 36mm Lectron on my 300 was OK. Great mileage, easy to start, perfect plug color, but the performance was a little lackluster. I recently obtained the newer 38mm Lectron which is quite a bit shorter than my old 36mm. Much much more power. Back to what I remember the Mikuni being like on top. I put the 36mm with the MS-3 metering rod on a WR144. The Mikuni on the 144 was hopeless.
As far as the mixture and lubrication, somewhere in the reading I've done there was a description of large droplets of fuel delivered with the Mikuni that burn on the surface of the droplet but leave the center unburned and exit into the exhaust. The Lectron atomizes the fuel to a much finer mist which results in a more complete burn. How the finer mist affects the lubrication of the engine before it gets burned I don't know. More surface area of finer mist seems like it should apply more oil to the engine with less going unburnt out the exhaust.

You should try my new 3-2m Lectron rod I designed for the 250-300. Amazing performance and MPG.
