As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.
Thanks for your patience and support!

Are you running it in a '78 frame or the '80?
I wouldn't spend extra $ on f/s, run the stock 38mm Mikuni. See jetting info below, only change I'd make would be to a 3.0 slide:
78 390 CR
38mm Stock 80 MXA
Slide 2.0
Needle 6DH3 6F15
Clip 4th tbd
Needle jet Q-8 R-0
Main jet 430 480
Pilot 45 50
Air Screw 1.5 tbd
Air jet 2.0 -

By "motor of doom" I meant that it rocks big time! Light, fast, broad power band, everything except primary kick start. Be sure to add 1-2T on the rear sprocket with 12T c/s.
No knock on the VI pipe but it's a copy of the stock thru-frame pipe although it is lighter than stock. An Up-Tite pipe is in another universe!
Yes, the 3.0 slide makes it easier to start and run crisper in the bottom 1/3rd.

You'll get easier starting (very important with the kick shaft gear train) and more low end. You can make it even easier to start by lowering the compression (mill the dome in the head).
- the jetting specs I have for the 40mm are:
82.5 500 Stock 82.5 MXA 83 stock 83 MXA
44mm 40mm 40mm
Slide 2.0 3.0 2.0 2.5
Needle 7DH3 7DH3 6F7
Clip 3rd 4th
Needle jet BB-5 BB-0 AA-5 BB-0
Main jet 400 480 340 400
Pilot 35 30 45 45
Air Screw 1.5
Air jet 0.7
Hope this helps
