    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Jetting - '08/'09 TXC 250?

i installed a jd jet kit,put low elevation needle in 1 position leaner than suggested.i have a 42 pj.i also have one of the adjustable leak jet things on it.not saying its perfect but it had a big bog stock.dan
 
I am running...

the JD red needle in the 4th slot down from the top
42 pilot (stock)
185 main
55 leak jet (I think that is what was in the kit)
thick o-ring on the AP arm
zip ty fuel screw tuned for the conditions

The JD jet kit came with a 45 pilot, but the instructions said to install a 42 and 42 was stock. I ran the 45 pilot at first but it was too rich and it didn't start all that well. The 42 is the way to go.

I started my bike one time before installing the JD kit...

...hmmm. No such thing as surprises with you...I guess I was pretty obvious...what with asking jetting questions and all. I'm prepping the bike as we speak...lubing the linkage, swingarm pivot & head, changing crossover tube, installing Uptite Y, installing TT Vector with temp gauge in the radiator hose, putting in a TurnTech 2.5 battery, applying anti-seize to the chain adjustors and mudflap bolts, applying loctite, going over the bike with a torque wrench (especially triple clamp bolts)...you get the picture. I need to ride with you for side-by-side comparisons! 2009 TXC 250 vs 2010 TXC 250. I can't already tell a huge difference in weight between it and my 08 TE 450.
 
I was not looking to get a new bike for at least another year. I wanted the 2010 250's to get a solid year of seasoning and on the bike set-up with real riders from this forum. Well stupid me...I was browsing the net and came across a deal that I couldn't say no to. That coupled with everyone's rave reviews including and especially from Jake and Krieg (the one handed kickstart with the beer on the seat was classic). It didn't help that I rode Jake's bike and was floored at the difference between an '08 TXC 250 and '08 TE 450. I also rode Russ's TE 310 and that sealed my fate...smaller is better for me!

Out of the box jetting is terrible! It will barely stay running without the continuous use of the cold choke and/or significantly turning up the idle. Also, I'm getting some tail smoke with the cold choke on.

Wow, is the air screw impossible to get to and adjust or what? I had to loosen the boot and twist the carb to see what I was doing and to get small flathead screw driver to it. Zipty here I come!

So here is what comes stock:

175 Main (main jet)
42 Pilot (Husky calls it an idle jet?)
72 leak (Husky calls it a starting jet?)
200 Main air jet (what the heck is that?)
Throttle Valve 15/M (I have no clue)
Stock needle in the 4th position from the top
Air screw 1.5 from closed
Low air jet 100 (??)

And here is what I should do - JD Jetting kit:
185 Main
45 Pilot, but keep it stock at 42
55 leak
special tapered needle in the 4th position from the top

That sounds almost exactly like mine ran with the stock jetting.

I wouldn't buy the Zip ty fuel screw again, or any aluminum fuel screw for that matter.

Get a brass one from merge racing, or any other company that makes them.

I had the zip ty laying around from my WR250f, that is the only reason I used it. It is better than stock though.

What about the air screw?
That would be the fuel screw. Air screws are for 2 strokes.
 
I just looked through the goodies box and it also has:

170 and 180 Main
40 and 45 Pilot

I guess it's a moot point anyway, as I ordered the fuel screw and JDJetting kit.
