  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

JD Tuner and FMF Powercore 4 on the TE511

Thx for the feed back Rearwheelin. So 75 is pushin it? It wouldn't do it stock, only after I added the JD tuner. What gearing should I run If I want to do 70 for 5-6 mile stretches, wide open trails and freeway jaunts, but keep some sort of low end for the single track trails? Am I asking too much out of this bike? The stock gearing revs out at 82 mph. It feels pretty good at 70 to me? but it is Revving a bit. Any one run a RPM gauge? Sounds like I need to keep it at 65? San Diego freeways roll 65-80 pretty standard. 70 is an ideal speed here, and in the desert too!


"I've never owned a stabilizer but you've got me intrigued. Is it worth the money if you just ride trails?" I wouldn't ride this bike with out a stabilizer personally. It rocks on the trails, It absorbs most of the shock that your arms generally would, Less to virtually no arm pump! It's a life saver when you side swipe a nice size (Anything) Stump, Rut, Rock, Log. The Motosportz one looks cool too! :notworthy: Thankz 2 Kelly! :oldman:

As too the Zip tie, I'd did put one loosely. I'm keeping an Eye on Binding and Line wear, so far no troubles?
I have the JD and same slip on and run a 46T rear. Will do 60 all day long and 70 for awhile without complaining at all. I've only had it up around Corral Canyon a couple of times and didn't have to slip the clutch too much on the tight trails (with the stock slick on the back). Haven't been up there since I put some fresh meat on the back! I would think you could go a tooth either way for what you want.

Thx for the feed back guys, I bought this bike for the trails, so I'm going to leave the gearing and just back off the throttle on the freeway. I had a blast in the mountains last week. I can't help wanting to go a little faster on the flats. Isn't that what its all about? Twisting throttle, Shooting roost, and G Force power wheelies? :banana:********************************************************************************!!!

Any dirtbike is an aerodynamic horror.
You need big horsepower to push em much over the ton.

Rearwheelin, would you try an experiment?
1st; get a GPS to eliminate any question about the true speed.
Then try a WFO run in 4th, then 5th, then 6th.
I won't be too surprised if it's faster in 5th than 6th.
Gearing too high can hold you back if the engine never gets into the meat of the power curve.
I hear ya , I know it pulls 6th like 5th as far as rpm... :)... I have owned 2 DR650 in the past, 06 with SM wheels, custom header and 42mm fcr , the other was a 92" basically stock and both did 105 mph. The TE 511 has much more power than either one of them. I think it's somthińg in my ECM governing at this point. If basically TE511nators bike hits 82 with stock gears and mine 85 (was 82 with JD red=7) then somthińg isn't rite with mine...assuming our speedometer reads the same.

Mine was set at JD red=6 I had the stock exhaust and my stock tire is half worn? I just reset the ECU and reprogrammed the JD to Performance mode. NOW It's RED=7****************************************!!about to ride it with the new powercore4**************************************** I'll let you know what happens. Ill take a GPS and compare speeds for Fasteer. I thought the spedo runs off the front tire?

Oddly enough the bike hits the rev limiter at 80-81 now? It runs way better and has more power up to 80. 4th gear wheelie comes right up now where as before it was a challenge! I really like the power curve the JD and powercore4 produce.

What !! They don't rev high ?? Ha ha ha ! Hey man I have been running down the road testing mine finally and a previous poster in a different thread had it right ! I just hit 100 ! And was going slightly up hill :) wheelies at 70 !! I was wearing the go pro too. My gps took a dump but worked for the first city block and like yours the speedo was fairly close. I will post my setting since the 2011 settings don't seem to mesh with the 12's... Cheers :)
 
I recommend either Motorsportz if you want to set it and forget it (plus its cheaper), or Scotts which has a lot more settings, but you can set your high-speed to whatever you want.

actually it does not. the Scotts you can adjust the low speed. there is adjustment for the high speed but it is capped for a reason. Recommended you do not adjust this as you can adjust it to the point where the bars will lock up when you don't want them to. it also have a sweep adjustment ours does not but simply because we chose to make ours gradually fall off and gradually come back from full lock as we like the more nature feel of it and it no longer required sweep control at this point. So in actually they both have slow speed adjustment and thats about it. Again not knocking Scotts at all, great product and i send everyone to them that i cant support. We built ours to be super simple and functional.

I believe the bike will lean itself out like stock when going up in altitude.

it should, the JD does nothing to the stock map or ECU until right before the injector so all altitude and temp compensations that might have been going one should still be going one. the JD just adds os subtracts percentages over several ranges to the base map.

What is your countershaft sprocket count?

I am setting up my brand new 2012 TE449 and would like to cruise in the open and still ride single track comfortably. Stock gearing is 15/51.

Have race map II on and FMF powercore 4.

I recently took my bike up to 3000ft from sea level and it ran like a dog. I'm thinking it needs a manual adjustment. Anyone sure if the the ECU or EFI adjusts with altitude? I'd love more power up there!

I'm going to check out the 45t sprocket. I'll try leaning the JD first and see if my top end improves?

Rearwheelin you said your airscrew was 3 1/8 turned out? which air screw were you refering to?
The air screw is on the left side of your throttle body , to the right of the cable dust cover. It's a big brass flat head screw driver screw... Turn it all the way in then back it out 3 1/8 turns, that will give you a good starting point. Turn in to slow idle/richen mixture and out to lean/raise idle. It's for fine tunning your idle.... Make sure the brass smog fitting on your head is capped , I filled mine with solder . Keep us posted, you should hit 90 atleast :)

Heh, I had forgotten about the little black cap because neither of my bikes have it on the stabilizers. As far as the settings go, most riders never touch the sweep or the high speed settings on the Scotts.Therefore, I suggest the Motorsportz over the Scotts for most riders.

Scotts doesn't recommend you touch your high speed settings until you become familiar with the steering stabilizer and riding. Eventually setting the highspeed is necessary imo because the sensitivity of the high speed setting corresponds to the setting of the low speed setting. In the video below, you will see that there are a lot more settings/combinations of settings available on the Scotts stabilizer. Imo, the Scotts stabilizer is more complicated to setup and is better suited for the racing community which is why they are on my ktms.

I found the air screw thx a million! The bikes running amazing now! I haven't top speed tested it yet, but I'll let you know wheen I do! you guys rock!

I havnt trail road at all since the FMF / JD , but the settings I gave you on my bike there was alot less back pressure and the bike seemed to breath and take off better when at a complete stop. I even shifted a few times with no clutch and was almost seamless on pavement and I always use my clutch.
