  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I've got gas problems

So in here in the green mountain state we only have 93 octane at the pump (and the closest Non-Ethanol gas is a hour from home.) According to the manual my xc250 has a very high compression ratio and is going to need the 96min recommended. What do you guys do for fuel?

Am I stuck buying 5 gallon cans of VP locally for 100 bucks? I've heard octane "boosters" don't do jack squat but this is all foreign to me.

I think you will be fine on 93, I have ran it plenty in mine. When you get it up and ready to run you prob. need to check plug and do jetting to make sure everything is ok.

it will be fine on pump premium 93 as far as octane goes mine had run for years on that....you want to avoid ethanol though. if you must run it, make positive sure you at least run startron additive with any fuel. this will help greatly.
i have abandoned ethanol for everything but autos tho, and run 50/50 91 oct and 110 vp mixed together. i have a few gas cans stocked up and i keep them full of each..

vp 110 leaded is 8 bucks a gallon out of the pump at few places near me within an hours drive...and yes, octane additives are a waste.

have you fixed the engine already?

With a water cooled bike I think 93 will be fine, but if you want a little extra just mix 1 gallon of the VP with 3 or 4 gallons of pump and you are good to go. You get plenty of octane and you stretch out that 5 gallons of VP a lot father. I do this for all of my bikes, it really helps the aircooled bikes stay consistent and run cooler.

Remember that two stroke mix lasts for one month so mix as needed. Don't store this new gas in your plastic tank for too long I heard it eats through some plastic tanks. One way to help the gas mix last longer is to keep the gas can sealed. Just remember to shake the gas can before you pour. I rock the bike if it has gas in it.

never had or have any problem with the black acerbis plastic tanks husky used like on this guys bike. why scare a new husky owner about something "eating through it" when its never happened.

Gas with ethanol in it will soften and split a fiberglass tank like a Bultaco or Penton, but it wont harm an aluminum or plastic tank.

Hey guys thanks for the responses! I'll make the trip for the 93 non-ethanol for sure. I should do that for the GSXR but I did just jet it and took the fact that I run e10 or whatever its called into consideration.

My engine is just breaking down into more and more pieces. Split the cases today and instead of pulling off the electrics side case it pulled the crank out of the clutch side. See my resto thread for pics!

Not quite, working on the bottom end now as I wait for my piston kit to get here. Glad I did as the crank bearings are very notchy and I can see chunks of aluminum imbedded in them.

it always pays to tear it all down. it will run a long time back together correctly and fed clean air...

My thoughts exactly. When I got it there was just a piece of foam in the air box. Its now currently filled with the proper Uni filter but I'm missing the wire/rod that clamps it in place so I may have to do a little fiddling to get it to work right but at least the filter is right now.

My camp is in Rochester,vt. In the green mountains next to the national forest I own a piece of heaven.
Unfortunately vermont is turning into a rich mans play ground. My area is the same as it was back in 1973, no fast food, the cows out number the people. I like that. Keep life simple.

I hear that Bill! For what I pay for my 2 acre slice of heaven in Vermont would get me easily triple in another state. Couple that with the fact I could be a Union welder in that other state and really on begins to question why I'm here still! I have family down Rochester way, hell got married a couple towns over from that! Small world eh?

Yup. My cousin took me bear hunting in Rochester in the national forest behind the bowl mill in '73. I hunted there every year after. I gave up buying a new car to purchased land there. It was $10k for 7 1/4 acres in '86. It's as close to God as I'll ever get. Gods country. I just had the septic approved.

Hey Kyle, do you have any local general aviation airports near you? 100LL Av gas is usually around the same price as 93/91. Smells great and my bikes love it. I mix it approx 50/50 with race gas for my race bike and mix a little into the four stroke can with ethanol treatment to kill the Ecrap.
