  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I've defected - in more ways than one...

A Class
Sorry Guys, but the Trusty Husky has gone to a new home.

I'd had the TE310R for 3 years (absolutely trouble free) and I fancied a change.
And what a change.

I've gone all smelly and bought a 2-stroke!
My first smoker in 42 years of riding.
A new Beta X-Trainer.

Why?
I wanted lightness, and the smaller chassis was a bonus.

Initial thoughts:
Yes, nice and light. Feels lighter on the move.
Not nervous, excellent in the gnarly stuff.
More lowdown power and torque than the Husky had in the middle!
Running-in revs are max 7000, and I don't think I've been much over 5000.
Pulls like a train from 2000 upwards with no power band (yet)
Back brake a little sharp. Front is excellent.
Vibrations are as bad as the 310, but in a narrower band.
Seat is harder.
Alternator struggles with the heated grips on full.
I miss the engine braking!
Man, it's thirsty!!
And it sounds horrible. Ring ding ding ding.

Caveat: I'm not a racer. Slow to moderate pace is fine with me - I like to look at the scenery and not have every ride as a near-death experience. Too old for that stuff.

I'll miss the Husky, it was a great, characterful little bike.

Funny about engine braking. I grew up on two strokes, so I had to pull in the clutch when I started to ride four strokes, so I could avoid the annoying engine braking. "And it sounds horrible" Certainly you jest!

Fun bikes. I've ridden a few, and after the last one (Beta ride day) was convinced that I had to have one... until I rode my CR150 again and realized it was probably better for me than the Beta.

Nice little bikes and great for putzing around and enjoying the scenery. Will do the hard bits if called on however.

I'm not jesting about the noise.

I'm just an old, dyed in the wool 4 stroke man

A bark is better than a screech IMHO

That's a great trail bike for what you do. I started with a 2 stroke as a kid, then went with a trusty XR200, then back to a 2 stroke IT200 (which I still own) back to a thumper a la TE449, then back with another 2 stroke WR250. Each bike has a best purpose and I love having a big, fast DS bike and a light nimble race machine that is also excellent for slow trail rides.
