Two years ago when this was announced I wanted to go. But since, with the absurd violence, I do not want to travel by car from Texas to the race location. I don't doubt that it's safe enough where the race is, just traveling through a long stretch of Mexico is concerning.

I did think I was going to a GULAG for smuggling contraband lead crystal out. Thank goodness for stinky, moldy, riding gear. LOL.

best to fly into Mex city and go from there, that is my plan. Mex city flights are fairly low priced. Hope to see some of us (US Husky fans) there. I am not a good sports watcher/viewer but for this event it will be worth it.

I'm hoping to be there competing. We'll see how qualifying goes. I'm feeling rather inadequate after the last couple of rides, but I'll just keep training.
I'm not at all worried about Mexico. I'll fly in with the team, stay within the same area as the rest of the team, pretty much be either racing or preparing, or sleeping I guess.

I did La Carrera Panamericana in '07 and '08 and never felt unsafe.

Big difference in what is going on now than it was 2 years ago. Look and how many kidnappings, killings, and robberies are going on in Mexico now. It is out of control.

it seems like sensationalistic reporting has people feeling pretty scared right now. If you look at the statistics, it doesn't really seem to be any worse than many many other places.

I doubt I'll qualify, but if I do (or if all the fast guys are skeered), I'll go without a second thought. Can't be as bad as working for the us govt in russia in the 80's and having creepy kgb chicks trying to hit on me.

I did that same race back in 1996 did it in a 1953 Lincoln built like a old Strop car from the orginal days We finished 9 th over all 1st in
Historial class after 7 days and 3 thousand miles We got that old
car up to 127 mph on the flats by Zatatecas .Best time i ever had
Mexico is such a beautiful place and the people were so nice .
Saw some really nice places and we did stay in Morrella .Just wish it was like it was back then if so i would going back but for now i will stay state side
