  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is this a sign of something bad ?

240-270 is warm for a few mins. 270 is too hot for extended use. should go back down quick with the fans on. fans on at stops is normal. it'll pee fluids for a few reasons, most common is the system equalizing levels with expansion. if the HG is popped enough to force fluid out the recovery jar it usually will really force fluid out same and start a runaway. before you add the FX try a CO test with plain distilled water with a block checker, or, pressure test the cooling system CAREFULLY. for a HG to pop from OH it usually has to run out or super low causing the head to warp and lift then the gasket will breech. im optomistic for you and fingers crossed. (check out all the foamy crap here, normal w/ car coolant)

Thanks Duke. I never ran the fluid out and refilled promptly with camel pac water... Bike only over heated when i ran a couple hill climbes back to back but road that day with cases mud packed and higher engine temps than normal. Can i get the CO tester at a chain auto store ?

yeh muddy cases will cause a spike as the oil aitn cooling off as it should putting the burden on the radiators. yer prolly ok. if it gets hot and ya catch it yer usually ok. its the go til it blows thing that hangs ya. the block checker is kinda specialized but google can find it im sure. the "system pressure tester" is easy to find.

Hey I just had a idea ! what if I put a condom over the cap I mean a water balloon or something to see if it inflates ? I will be sure to video it !

sure. it'll keep yer bike from getting pregnant alright.

actually- use a funnel to do the block check method. coolant expands etc etc etc...or you'll proly end up with a hot water balloon bomb.

Just finished getting some testing on with the 511 and fore sure it has a bad cap ..... I could easily push-pull air threw the over flow hose so the cap must be bad. For good measures I zip tied a trash sack over the cap receiver and plugged the over flow and idled the bike/ revved the bike for a while letting the fan kick on and off a few times while monitoring the expanded air and fluid in the sack. After I shut the bike off and let cool 100% of everything goes back in the rads:thumbsup: I'm convinced its the crappy antifreeze and the bad cap . :oldman:

All this made me check mine yesterday. It's still clear green stock stuff and the cap seal looked way less cooked than yours. Glad it wasn't the head gasket, that would've sucked bad since it's the best time of year to ride out here now.
