  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is my clutch slipping?

Had a very strange thing happen twice the other day. I have a 2013 TXC310R. I have to ride it on the street about 1-2 miles to get to my local trail head. I noticed the bike jump in the rev's like the clutch was engaged and then a second later it would re-engage and come back to cruising RPM. I go pretty slow on the street and NEVER get on the throttle (mostly to save tires), so no excessive loads on the street.

It feels like you were riding at an RPM, holding the throttle consistent, but then like you pulled and released the clutch for a moment. It ONLY happens on the street. When I get to the trail, I am wide open, ripping it up and not once does it every do this. Runs perfect in the dirt.

But on the street at some random low RPM, it slips for a brief moment. Bike is very new and has 20 hours or less. I use Bel Ray Works Thumper full Synth 10w-50.

I have a hard time believing the clutch is already getting worn.

Sounds more like a fueling issue to me but that's a guess. 10w-50 in there is pretty rough. Might wanna try some 0w40 and let the engine get some flow to avoid excessive wear.

Interesting advice on the oil. The manual calls for 10w-50, but we often know the manual isn't always the best recommendation.

Not looking to highjack this thread but it's kind of along the same lines and I live in the same area as this rider. I recently picked up a 2012 and switched it over to Mobil 1 0W40 The only type i could find says "european car formula". I was told to watch about the additives in some of the Mobil 1's but I didn't find any verbiage to this. I've been running it for about 5 hours so far and all seems good but wanted to check this was the correct. Rotella T6 is just about everywhere here so I figured I'd give that a go if this was incorrect.

I should also add it seems like the bike bleeds a little more with lighter weight blood, but I changed it just after I bought it so it's not a true comparison.

Very Cool.Cheeers

95 jersey. . . if you're interested most of the Walmart's around me sell it. Cinnaminson Walmart on 130 is the one I went to it's just over 25.00 for a 5qt jug.

Think about adding one of these too. They offer 7 times more flow than paper and fiber filters.

So I tried this with the same results. Clutch slips on the pavement. I guess this means I need a new clutch. Hard to believe with only 35 hours.

Yea that does seem a bit early. Have any local friends that could ride it and bounce the idea off them? Did you buy it from Central Jersey. Say what you will about Bob hes a good guy and wouldn't charge you to test ride it. I'm new to these bikes so I can't really comment on how long they last. I bought a used 2012 but the previous owner had already replaced it as the bike had high hours.

yea I hate to think its clutch slippage...
I keep thinking, wicked chain slap, surging, too much clutch fluid/ crank case vent.
But I am not riding the bike...
