    WR = 2st Enduro & CR = 2st Cross

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

250-500cc Is it true the 2011 WR300 will have elec start!!

http://www.thumpertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=885276

sorry to post this, iv heard it so many time before, if i wanted electric start etc i would have gone orange.
i really will be disappointed if husqy dont stand out and stay away from electric start, i never have an issue starting my 250, ever

new frame please that will do
lighter motor

i think for trailing thought the 250 takes some beating, i rode a wr250r and it was horrible!!! and i still kicked it to prove a point to the 4 stroke boyz we were out with

is this what we really want, come on we buy 2 stroke cos there easy to mantain, light, nimble. the alternative is a heavy 4 stroke, high maintenance costs, with all the electric bits.

I mean i dont even have lights on mine, apart front tail light. cos it more weight and i dont ride at night
Its not like you have to kick the motor all day it take 2 at most and its hard to stall these motors, i cant see the problem so many people seem to have. or may be its just me

My four stroke TE isn't that difficult to kickstart, but I like the magic button. If I was stalled in a rocky water crossing or on a slippery loose hillside, I'd like a button on a twostroke to get going when I need all the help I can get to balance and touch the ground. Sometimes the bike isn't in a practical position/location to get to the kickstarter without moving it quite a bit.

You are right about the crossing, but generally if i stall in water its cos iv gone swimming so the best thing to do is push her out

If i stall on a slippy hill the best thing to do is point the bike down hill and bump her off, this uses less energy and save having to try and find grip on the greasy sliip bank, and have another stab at the climb

FWIW I THINK e-START RULES, ONCE YOU HAVE IT YOU WILL NEVER GO BACK TO KICKING. THE SMALL AMOUNT OF WEIGHT IT ADDS TO THE BIKE IS TOTALLY WORTH IT IMO.

so iv been told, but iv ridden a yam wr250f, a ktm 400, a bmw 450, and i still love the kick start, i cant see the fuss to be honest, i am far from fit but it still doesnt bother me, there is a lad with a ktm 300 near me and i think he has binned it and converted it to just kick

means i never have to bother with battery trickler, i just wash, put away then 5 weeks later i get her out turn the fuel on tilt her to the lef, and kick.. ring ding ding ding

(well to be honest when i ride with an electric start i think 'hmmm i like this its so easy', but jump back on mine and it all goes away with a twist of the wrist)

I'm 6'1" and there are still times when the e-start would come in handy on my WR. If Husky makes it an option on the WR models I'll be getting one with the e-start. Brad.

E-start is cool. Necessary no but when you stall it of shut it down in a bad place you just smack the button and keep on moving.

Love E-start on 4strokes, but it's not near as necessary on 2t's, but could be handy sometimes. Many KTM owners ditched the e-start on their 2ts.

The WR 250/300 are long overdue for serious updating.

not thats lazy...lol...

2 st dont need a kick starter...

if you stall it on a hill that is so bad you cant start it are you going to continue up? or go down and try again...most likely go down and take another run at it....

leave the e start for the 4 st and maybe leave it as an option...

If I can restart the bike, I'll keep going up.:D I'm too lazy to go back down through all the sharp rocks and stuff. Less work to just keep going.

Screw the e-start. These bikes need updated frame, suspension and lighter motors with adjustable power valves, long before they need e start.

Sean,

IF you rode on the side of the cliffs as we often do in the Rockies the button can be a life saver for the upwardly challenged. I will call the button Huskies answer for a "Midget Adapter".

Do a search on "KTM Talk" for 2 stroke E-start problems... You can go to the pumpkin patch for E-start and be happy for about a week... THEN... you'll be like the hordes of other KTM 2 stroke E-starters asking why their E-start hardware has imploded in the most nasty ways. E-start on KTM 2 strokes has been an absolute JOKE.:thumbsdown::thumbsdown:

and since thats not going to happen i want a battery and a car starter jb welded and ziptied on my kick start shaft!

Is there any valid information on the 2011 bikes?

Is it too much to ask for a heated seat along with e-start.

Seriously, a... new motor, new frame, new carb, adjustable PV, monster power (like the old motor), with or without e-start and I will buy one the day they are available. Even if it has a small gas tank
