  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Is an EFI programmer available for the 2013 TE310R?

I found only 2012 and earlier. Specifically I wish to de-tune and make it more like a trail bike.

The only thing I could find was a JD Tuner. I have one on my 2013 TE310R. I am not sure you would be able to de-tune it as it only leans and or richens the jetting. Doesn't affect ignition timing which would probably be more effective in detuning. Here is the link.

I don't think Power Commander makes anything for the '13/'14 models nor do I expect them to with the extinction of the model.

Some other more knowledgeable members may have suggestions on how to de-tune.

Which map are you running? I can flash a slower map onto it, but I would try just adding a restrictive insert into the silencer.

Thanks for the responses.

It has the dealer installed power kit; I bought it used so I'm not sure exactly what that means except I have a box full of parts. I recall a post about switching between two maps so a better question is if a gentler power band EFI map is available.

Tinken, I have muffler part that was removed. Is that the insert you are referring to? Looks the catalyst in the parts list (8000 H2084). Quieter would be a plus.

I found this post so I wonder if the 'stock' map works the power up kit. I like the idea of switching between the two maps.

The 2013 TE310 does not require much in order for it to be running like the TXC but note that this is the off road setup.

1. Removed the restrictive air filter cage and replace it with one from the TXC.
2. Removed the mesh backfire screen from the air filter cage.
3. Removed the red velocity stack (Bored out the restricted end of the velocity stack but it still ran better without it).
4. Had the ECU re-flashed with the "Race" settings. Note: according to my dealer there are 3 setting for the 2013 model. Standard, Race, Race with modified exhaust.
5. Removed the canister and blocked off the fitting on the intake manifold.
6. O2 sensor is still in place and attached. The race map ignores it. You can remove it if you wish.
7. Removed the CAT from the exhaust. It's located between the silencer and the head pipe.
8. No throttle adjustments have been necessary. I don't believe that this year had a throttle restrictor.

Good luck!

No, it would be a more restrictive exhaust insert. The problem with down shifting the ecu map is that it will lean the air fuel mixture and cause a non-steady throttle response. If we restrict the air flowing through the engine, then the power will be reduced.

There are some pretty expensive ways to transform bikes. I have several riding buddies that have G2's and were all trying to fix one ailment or another. ALL were very happy and with a little fine tuning got what they were looking for. I had one for a while on a twitchy two stroke and the "trail" cam made a world of difference - the throttle control was significantly improved.

DynoJet will make a powercommander for the 2013-2014 TE310, but someone has to take them a bike... *cough* Nantista *cough*. I don't have one to take there.

What about restricting with the DB killer... maybe with the inner end squeezed closed a bit?

That plus G2 throttle tamer should do the trick without leaning it out.

Thanks all, good ideas. I injured by my shoulder when bucked off on a low speed turn. There also could possibly be a bug or simply poor implementation of the EFI SW that does not "roll on" the fuel metering from idle which the G2 addresses.

I think you will find that that 400 cam is exactly what you want. I could not believe hom much throttle control it gave even on the most lightning of throttles. On wet and nasty trail conditions, it was like a precision dial - you could pick exactly what power input you wanted and easy hold it int hat position. I found that I could easily hold 1/10th throttle and climb the nastiest and wetest rooted up trails in lieu of screaming up and having the back end all over the place.

The G2 are made int he usa and they have a 30 day money back guarantee - so you dont have a thing to lose.

I have a G2 dirt tamer on my 310 and it is perfect. Big plus 1 for the G2. They are a great bunch of guys too. Give them a call.

+1 for G2 product. They are a pleasure to deal with and the quality of the product is outstanding. They made me a longer throttle tube so I didn't have to cut my foam rally grips that I love!

I run a 400 cam on my 525 EXC and for tricky, off camber, snotty situations it is a must in my opinion. Actually, the G2 product will enhance your control on any technical situations that require finesse with the throttle. For anyone, I don't care who you are....

Bottom line is the G2 only affects less than 50% throttle openings, after 50% throttle opening you are back to stock anyways, so if you want to go fast you can still do it!

I see posts that the DB Killer does not have a spark arrester which is a show stopper for me. Is the spark arrester a welded or clamped on wire mesh, something I could fabricate?

You could easily tack on a stainless mesh. That would functionally perform spark arrest. However, if ever checked (and I NEVER have) you could wind up with a hefty fine ($230 now). Being marked "US Forest Service Approved" means NOTHING.

My cousin (and best friend) is a forester. Bottom line, there is a pre-approved list of devices that meet the USFS (and suitably adopted for BLM, National Parks etc.). The USDA publishes a quite detailed spec on just about every known device on the planet - if you are not on the list you get a ticket. LOTS of rumors out there...prob best to stick with the law as some bloke on Thumpertalk won't pay ones ticket! As an FYI, and 49+ state legal bike is also approved.

If you want some REALLY dull reading. It is part of the USDA's Publication 5100 "Fire Management Program" and entitled "Spark Arrester Guide". It is thick (like a phone book)...

ALL that being said, I have NEVER been checked - and we are in the forest (USFS) 10+ times a year. I have seen agents glance in the back of the pipes, but usually they are too coated with grime to determine if they are OEM, street legal, aftermarket etc.. Around here, they are too concerned with real issue - logging, dumping, meth cooking, mining - a bunch of idiots beating themselves against trees doesn't really raise much of an eyebrow.

when I get my unrestricted un-FI TE300, we can bring them my TXC310R to play with......maybe I'll keep it...

I have been checked. All the ranger did was try to insert a plastic rod/stick into the muffler. If it stops at about 4 to 6 inches you are good. If he manages to stick the plastic rod through your muffler you will probably get your bike taken away......
He did not try to read anything on the muffler can itself....

That is the typical way I hear it happening - probably easier that keeping a manual around. The point is, that isn't the right way. For those that choose a DIY, there is significant risk if you ride in an area that sees frequent policing. There are lots of officers that know their jobs and they are not going to poke a rod in the pipe (seems odd in text...). They go right to the regulation.

Rest assured, if you have a pipe made by any major maker, and the maker claims spark arrest - you are good. Now, if one runs "Uncle Vick's Loud Pipes r' Us" - all best are off no matter what it reads and what gets poked in the pipe!

Around here, they have started impounding the vehicle pending legal resolution - sort of a hefty bond if you ask me.
