• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Interesting frame number on 84 WR400 ?

darren7878

Husqvarna
AA Class
Bike came from USA

Just had frame blasted and powder coated.

Frame number reads 'husqvarna1'

Anyone have any knowledge or information to offer?image.jpg

Yes. They all say that. It is not the frame number. The number is located nearby and can be quite faint. Sorry to disappoint.

Interesting. I have 3 bikes and all have the HUSQVARNA 1 stamped on them. The powder coated frames are hard to read the frame number on. I remember at the nationals last year the scrutineer wrote Husqvarna 1 down as the frame number! He couldn't find any other number and I didn't have my glasses with me to help locate it!

I'm kind off happy and relieved as I had previously taken the angle grinder to this frame

Would not of felt the same if I had chopped up a 'special' frame!! :naughty:

It was done to all USA 84's as a prefix as California just changed to require all VINs to have at least 14 digits and the numbering system they had been using prior to 83 was not enouh (14). So they stamped these as a prefix to the normal number (usually stamped just below it)

My '84 WR 400 has Husqvarna 1 stamped before the vin as well.It is the original paint. What is the paint code for the white, by the way? I am going to have mine powder coated as well. Are your forks powdercoated white as well? mine are not.

Having built a 250 this last winter I can say that my early 84 ( twin Shock ) 250 WR Frame did not have this stamp. I blasted the frame and changed the steering head angle and did a fair amount of welding in this area and I would of noticed it had it been there.

Powdercoat will totally devalue the bike if you ever try to do an authentic restore for resale when you decide you want to part with it. Yes, that day will come to you whether you realize it or not.

I did powder coat my 86, when it comes to white why not. Paint comes comes off so easy. Been 5 years now and only a few spots rubbed off.
it takes an hour to sand blast it off so whats the big deal, if i went with paint i would have to repaint every winter lol no thanks. I put white
duct tape on the frame where the seat sits and places where cables and air box would rub. Still looks like paint but its hanging on like a dream. I wont bother with silver powder as the colors around are not a good match to me. Also i would never sell it because you can not buy a new bike thats built to last like an old Husky....

I've removed powder coating. It is very difficult. I think we had to blast and bring the crap off. It is a great finish, but I cannot figure out how it would bring the value of the bike-down? It is a bulletproof finish, but imam going to stick to paint. Time to get the hvlp gun out. Does ANYBODY know the paint code for the Husky white, and are the fork tubes white on this year bike?

I must admit I get my frames powdercoated. I race MX with them 5-10 times a year. Seems to hold up ok.

I hear horror stories of all chipping off but have not experienced it.

Grind, grind the crap off. (fixing my previous post, Iphone auto-correct and text feature has gotten worse-not better imho.)
