  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Installed the lowered seat

I bought and installed a lowered seat (Husky part number: COD. 8000H2442) today and my stubby legs now reach the ground on both sides of my '08 TE. If anybody thinks their bike is too tall, this is a quick way to shave almost 1.4 inches (35mm) from the seat height.

Two toes down for this great mod!

I put one on my TXC. It's a great mod for us "vertically challenged" riders, but be prepared for a harsher ride. The trade-off is worth it IMO, once your but gets acclimated.

I did notice that it was harder, but the stock seat is so firm that I assume that the lowered seat is like sitting on maple instead of oak. I'm going to take a moderate ride today as a test.

 I want a balsa wood seat!

Sounds like I might need to look into one of these seats. I didn't realize the difference was that great. I could use a little more lowering, but I didn't want to go more than 1" on the suspension. Hmm...

Dan at Motoexotica had it in stock and the price was WAY better than what I was seeing at other places. Dan's the man.

Last One

I got the last one??? Rock hard just like my SMR. :D
Ride report tomorrow, doing a 60+ mile woods ride.

I know guys who put a irver over theor new seats and take to them with a cricket bat-Baseball bat would probably work fine for a bit of softening up.

OK, I've searched every 'stralian translation site on the net and I can't find the definition of "irver". Give us a hint mate!

Any pictures of the lowered seat?

No pics, but it looks almost exactly like the stock unit except the part of seat at the thick part is just not as thick. The low point is directly above the pivot point of the rear brake lever. Holding them next to each other it's hard to tell that the seats are different, but the difference is real noticeable when riding. With the stock seat I always felt like I was on the edge of dropping the bike. The new seat really helps.

I had an upholstery guy shave one inch off the stock seat before I even picked up the bike from the dealer (he was just two doors down) -$20.00 and it is perfect. Still cushy (no problem doing back to back 200 mile days) and my toes touch the ground. I have to believe that is cheaper than buying a new seat :excuseme:

A few weeks ago, the first thing I did after picking up my new race bike (it's green so I won't post a picture :p) was take that seat to the same guy - another $20 and I am in business :applause: with that bike too......

Here's my Husky modified seat - Isn't she "purty"....

A few pics before my 100 mile ride last Sunday. I will take a few more
after brake in pics. It is a firm racing seat, but much nicer than my 07
510 SMR seat.

$ 114 is what it cost me from the dealer. I only really need it on the street, so I have the stock seat for off-road,
long rides only.

my stock 09 seat was super flat, tall, and really round and wide on top. really comfy once it broke in and if the stocker slammed ya in the arse it didnt hurt (as i exit stage front OTB in 5th. weeeee   )

optional seat softens up some, just like the orriginal does. stays a tad firmer though so ya dont bounce off the pan as it has less foam. its a very nice option to have and it dont screw up the ergos. i copied the optional pattern on the one i saw a while back to my stock seat, plus a little more reshaping so the bike moves easier side to side, then put the optional seat i just got back in the box after confirming and testing- that one goes on the bike when its sold (as if ever) cuz it's cherry. the stock seat foam is very workable and dont chunk. used a dowel and drywall sanding screens for shaping.

get one if ya can. it could help ya sell yer bike having two seats. most i know ride asian stuff and dont like euro high bikes and the optional seat seems to smooth things over more when someone sits on mine.

fer moto, or if yer tall, the stocker is great as it's flat and fat and breaks-in nicely. for off-road i like the optional for climbing as ya dont go off the back as easy, has a little more of a pocket once the front end goes up. im very pleased husky has this option. asians used to on some moto models but, that was back in the 80's or 90's if i recall....

mod'd stocker:

Both, It was a garage many years ago. Now it is a 1 bedroom studio. :D

Just got the bike and am thinking of having an auto upholstery shop take 2 inches off. I can get that done for 50 bucks as oppose to 200 for the Husky lower. Thoughts?
