• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

insider information.......two new huskys for 2013?

 Why? My 511 has it and i think it makes the bike feel lighter when in motion and see no down side.

The under seat tank is a plus for weight distribution. It's put there to centralize the mass and lower the center of gravity.

The draw back is with expanding fuel capacity.

People are comparing this to the 630. It's NOT a 630. It is not intended for the same purpose as the 630 was. It will, in all likelihood, spank the 630 on pavement. And get spanked in the dirt. And it will last twice as long (or more) than the 630.

BTW, the 2012 BMW G650GS has an MSRP of $7899. That is WITH ABS, but no other options. ABS is standard on all BMW street bikes. Note that it is standard on the Strada as well.

Well configured, you'll probably add $600-1000 to the price (not to mention tax, license, blah, blah, blah). You're a fool if you don't get the factory heated grips. Yeah, you can save coin by installing some Symtech crap. Pony up the Jacksons and get the factory integrated heated grips. The first time you do a cold ride you'll be asking yourself if you should ship a six pack to me by UPS or FedEx... :D

And it will last twice as long (or more) than the 630.

Thanx for the info! Don´t know how long my 630´ll last. But I now know that I should have got myself a 511. At the time, the 511 was only street legal here with a special permit ... and that was too much hassle. Apart from that, I was a bit worried that the 511 might be too much of a competition bike and not really suitable for everyday road use (too much spannering). Now you tell me that it should last twice as long as the 630? Why? Has it got a larger oil capacity? Please convince me, as I´m ready to be converted. The 630 is quite a bit too heavy (lardy) for my taste.

He means the new 2013 650 should last longer than the 630 because it'll have the long-lived BMW 650 motor.

I think I still like the 630. I am coming off a ktm950adv so I am not anxious to regain any weight back towards that area. I can never afford to buy anything but used bikes anyway.

So I had an interesting conversation with a corporate rep today while discussing the path of my warranty repairs. Basically he told me that there are definitely two new huskys coming stateside for next season. One is a d/s 650, with a 21" front and 18" rear. The other is a SM version which, (and this is bizzare), is supposed to have a 17"rear and a 19" front......not sure how that is supposed to work? Also he confirmed that the SMR511 is available stateside , as well as no plans on the scrambler esq' dirt tracker coming. I told him that if that bike were to ever get released, id be in line asap with a deposit.......
Did the rep say if the Nuda would come to the USA?

I talked to Schulz Husqvarna today and was told that the Nuda would be here before the Strada & Terra.

Schulz is a dealer and not a Husky rep correct? Sometimes salespeople at dealerships are less informed than we are. Might not be the case here but wanted to clarify. The Nuda quite possibly could get me interested in street riding again.

This bike should be very good for Husky and an excellent business decision IMO. Hopefully they will price competitively and sell thousands of them. It will help their presence here in the US and will give them opportunity to expand their dealer network and invest/release some other niche models that will benefit us all in the end.

What is the best selling dual sport bike in the US? Kawasaki KLR650 by leaps and bounds over any other model. The above Husky sure looks like it could be the KLR killer to me if Husky doesn't get greedy.

I agree. I think this would take care of my street riding, especially if it has an extra 10 hp over the BMW G650GS. That should give it the power to run 70 to 80 all day. We need that in West Texas as the speed limit on the interstate is 80 mph, and most folks are running 85 to 90. Risky though as the State Troopers don't cut much slack above 80 mph. I will have one of these I think, probably new, which is unusual for me. Heated grips, side cases, and a small windscreen. Hope they have an aux. power socket too, but that's easy to add. I might even go crazy and put some clear protective on the red plastic to protect from knee rub. The giant tail piece will have to go though. I prefer my own rubber mat extension as on my other bikes. It doesn't break if your bike takes a nap unexpectedly. HDB handguards and folding mirrors will take care of most everything else. 'Sure hope they don't put Karoos on it. I think I just saw my check book run away to hide.......

Oh, do you think they will have a decent side stand this time around?

Exactly.

Don't try to make it something it is not and then it all makes sense.

I have heard nothing like this from reliable sources. I would bet money against that. I could be wrong but do not think so. Hard to say if the Nuda would sell here or not. It is a cool bike though and gets good reviews. Also brought a lot of light / focus to the husky brand which can only be good. Street bike mags are littered with it and the husky name.

Schulz is a family owned dealership. He was speculating, but I'll buy one.

I hope that Nuda comes to fruition for us merican folks. The Nuda would be a replacement for my Super Duke. I was seriously taking a look at the KTM SM-R but they stopped bringing that into the USA. The ergos on the Nuda are appealing plus the power delivery could give me the requisite rush the LC8 motor delivers. Maybe not the same but close.
I know I'm off topic but we are talking about some interesting machines Husky is and wants to produce. I just want a taste.

I'm with you on that!!
