• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

insider information.......two new huskys for 2013?

FasYankee

Husqvarna
AA Class
So I had an interesting conversation with a corporate rep today while discussing the path of my warranty repairs. Basically he told me that there are definitely two new huskys coming stateside for next season. One is a d/s 650, with a 21" front and 18" rear. The other is a SM version which, (and this is bizzare), is supposed to have a 17"rear and a 19" front......not sure how that is supposed to work? Also he confirmed that the SMR511 is available stateside , as well as no plans on the scrambler esq' dirt tracker coming. I told him that if that bike were to ever get released, id be in line asap with a deposit.......

bit of a thread over at advrider about the 650. it appears the weight will be up around the 170kg mark so i am definately out!

"the two new 650s are tentatively named the Strata and the Terra."

All fairly established news. The 650 is based on the BMW single with a Husky chassis in Street (Strada) and DualSport (Terra) form.

Some dealers have the limited run 2012 SM511 in stock.

511 is the way for me. Should have started off with a 511 instead of the 630. Spent a lot getting the 630 right, so will perhaps hang onto it for a bit loger. Wait and see what Husky does to their 511. (I´d sooner walk than go orange)

The marketing group must be having their way after deciding the KLR market is larger than the adventure bike market. 375 pounds, dry, no doubt, is a no go for me. Whenever it's time to replace the 630, I hope Yamaha will have a large bore WRR available, and that it's as bullet proof as the 250. Just need more power!

I think that's the direction I may end up going eventually. I'll probably trade the 630 for a 449 or 511, or something in that class. Then I'd like to add a KTM 990 to the stable.

I have a TE511 and it is a fantastic do it all DS bike. I think i will sell my FZ1000 and get one of these new 650's to fill the street, exploring that bikes does for me.

Bill (Bills) save me one.

As much as I love my 630 if Yamaha would release a 500cc twin version of the WR I'd jump ship in a heartbeat. I did an hour long road ride today on the highway - the vibes on a big single are just too much. I'm looking to keep the TE as a hooligan bike and pick up either a 990 SMT or Multistrada for longer and two-up riding.

SM version with a 19/17 combo? Exactly what I'm building from my own SM610, a "gravel cruiser". There are a few more tire choices for the 19" front. A 17" front is okay for the street but not so desirable in the marbles.
That's the beauty of motorcycles. Not to difficult to make it suit your own taste and style of riding.

Looking forward to see if these new models materialize. The dual sport 650 should be a hit. The SM/Scrambler model? Probably not for most enthusiast in this country.

Thought it was designed specifically for the US. Don´t know anyone over here who´d want anything like that.

Seem weird as bmw just killed off Huskys' SM racing in EU after dominating it for close to a ~decade... Husky even won a title on the 511 (or 449) over there ... Then they killed it off ...

There does seem to be big big money in the true DS riding ... Bikes are expensive, gear is expensive, many rides are long ... Lots of $$ to be made in this arena ..

You'll never figure out the companys' motivation on all the changes unless your are sitting in the meeting ...And then all could do is nod your head up and down ...
