• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Inaugural Husqvarna Challenge Cup Supermoto Race

That is extremely generous of Husqvarna NA. I certainly hope a significant number people sign up for that. :thumbsup:

It would be great if people would post if they are going.
 
I agree, Coffee. A strong turnout for this race could lead to a Husqvarna Challenge Cup Series next year. So far, we've had some questions and positive feedback about the idea. It would be nice to know if Husky riders are coming for the race. Anyone committed to coming to Michigan for the race? Anyone on the fence? Feel free to call or e-mail me with any questions about the Challenge Cup.

Looking forward to seeing a whole lot of Husqvarnas on the track at the same time.

If this works out and we get a good turnout for this first race, we could see a regional and perhaps a national series in the future. Based on my conversations with the people at Husqvarna, they are enthused about supermoto and would like to see the sport (as well as sales of their SMRs) grow in the U.S. Participation and sales are the key.

Too bad you can't make out to the Midwest for the race, HuskyFrk. Perhaps another time...
 
:banghead: I am getting my ACL fixed on the 15th. Would have been cool to work out visiting the family in Cleveland for the week, and "disappearing" for a day. :devil: Even if I didn't ride, it would cool to watch. Can I make a plea for anyone going to get a ton of pic's and video of the event?
 
NEWS UPDATE - Husqvarna Challenge Cup Race

Items of note for those Husqvarna racers participating in the Inaugural Husqvarna Challenge Cup Supermoto Race on September 27th at Auto City Speedway in Clio, Michigan.

We will be marking off a separate area in the pits exclusively for Husqvarna racers, There, we can be with our own kind :D to bench race, talk tech, intimidate the competition, race prep, hydrate / re-fuel and recover from track time. Look for the Husqvarna banner and Midwest Motorcyclist™ logo’d van when you enter the pits.

For those not familiar with MI Supermoto races. The track opens for racers approximately four hours prior to the first heat race. On the 27th, the track will be open at 12 noon. All racers will identify their skill level (Beginner, Amateur or Pro) at race registration. Assuming there are no unforeseeable issues to interfere with track time, each group will get a 20-minute practice session during each of the four hours prior to the heat races.

There won’t be separate practice sessions for the Husqvarna riders. Only the Challenge Cup Heat Race and the Challenge Cup Main Event race will feature only Husqvarna racers.

Bottom line fee for Husqvarna racers participating in the Challenge Cup Race and another class designated by the aforementioned skill levels is $110. The fee, assuming you arrive in time for the first practice sessions beginning at 12 noon, includes four 20-minute practice sessions, a Challenge Cup heat race, a Beginner, Amateur or Pro heat race, the Husqvarna Challenge Cup Main Event race and the regular Main Event race according to your self-identified skill class. That’s a lot of track time and racing for a minimal race registration fee.

Whether you’re a racer or a fan, come on out and join us for the final race in the 2009 Michigan Supermoto Championship and the Inaugural Husqvarna Challenge Cup Race. See you there!

Sorry to hear you won't be able to make it, Switch. Good luck with the ACL. I'm working to ensure that we get plenty of pics and video. I'll try to get that stuff up here as soon as possible after the race.

Get well in time for a possible series next year.
 
My error, Dean. Sorry about that. :banghead: I started a new thread to draw attention to the Husky pit area and some of the other information. I didn't know whether adding that information to the end of the previous thread would be effective in communicating the info. If appropriate, I can add the information to the end of the previous thread and you can delete this one.

So everyone can find the pertinent information in one location, maybe update post #1 in this thread, then add a post to tell people post #1 was updated?
 
That is darn tempting, even for a guy in Alberta Canada! I was just talking to a dealer today about getting a new SMR and then saw this thread, got me thinking that maybe there is a way I could have a new bike delivered to the track, fly down, race the piss out of it, and fly home and toss the bike back in a crate and have it shipped back out west. I haven't committed to the bike yet so if there was an alternative place to get a bike, maybe via Husky direct since they are pretty involved in this event, or a local dealer that has a bike for similar $$, I could probably make this work. Race like a rock star< fly in, race, fly home. And get a new bike. Mint!

SM2, if you can PM me with some contact info for yourself and any key peeps at Husky or a local shop that could make my dream a reality, that would be great!

We have two Husqvarna dealers here in Michigan; one I am familiar with and the other not so much. JT Cycles in Battle Creek [(269) 965-0571 or www.jtcyclebcmi.com/] is the dealership with which I'm familiar. I would call them first. They're about two hours from the track. I'm sure they would be happy to talk with you. Can't say what kind of price they might be willing to offer. Let me know how this turns out.

The second dealer is Reinbold's Sales and Service in Reese, MI [(989) 755-0612]. Not familiar with these guys.

Phack.... Just looked at my calendar on my blackberry and noticed "Reid's 2 yr birthday" (my son) on Sept 25. Glad I punched it in there but that adds yet another element of complexity to this whole idea of mine. Is it possible to fly in on Sat the 26th and hope that the dealer has prepped a bike to race ready standard so all I have to do is load it up in a truck and drive to the track and race it on Sunday? Possible I think but sure doesn't leave much time for break-in and prep before the action starts on Sunday at noon.

Hey, Jaro. Once the financial part of the deal is complete, I'm quite certain the dealer will have the bike prepped and ready for pickup when you arrive. You would probably have to handle the pick-up on Saturday but if that doesn't work with your schedule and Reid's b-day (Happy Birthday, Reid!), we might be able to persuade them (the dealer) to come in on Sunday a.m. to finish the delivery. There are soloutions to all problems. Let me know what I can do to help.

Husqvarna NA Coming to race in Challenge Cup

Richard Kenton-Weeks, the Aftersales Manager for Husqvarna North America, will be participating in the Inaugural Husqvarna Challenge Cup race being held in Clio, Michigan on Sunday, September 27th. This race is also the final race in the 2009 Michigan Supermoto Championship.

Richard is an avid Supermoto fan and has raced in a couple of club races. He also has extensive roadracing experience with quite a few 250 GP and 600 cc road races under his belt. In addition to racing in the Challenge Cup Race, Richard will be available to talk about Husqvarna motorcycles, answer questions and generally shoot the bull with us. He will also be presenting the purse to the winners of the Race.

We're really excited that Richard is going to join us. We hope that any Husqvarna racers still on the fence about coming to the race will see this news as the last bit of incentive to come to the race.

Tomorrow's the day!

Hope to see some of you come out for the Inaugural Husqvarna Challenge Cup Supermoto race tomorrow. Right now, it looks like we'll have 16 to 18 racers in the CC race. More are welcome so come on out. The weather forecast is for partly cloudy skies and temps in the 70s. Perfect day for racing! :applause:
