  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

IMS tank install - 2010 te250

i got my ims 2.8 G for my 2010 te250 today
this tank design is rubbish i worked on it for 3 hours with no luck
the seat will not fit and the lower radiator shrouds are not at the right position.
i tryed to dremel the seat front hook and it only helped a bit.
also the radiator fan cant spin due to the tank pressure on the fan.
why do i have to pay 230$ for an item thet was not tested as it has to be.
i put my oem tank back and throw this .............. to the closet.
NO IMS TANK FOR ME

Contact your retailer or IMS. If it's new it's under warranty and IMS will replace it completely free. The next one will probably fit differently.

thanks
i think i will sell the IMS and get me a new 2011 TE250 tank and fual pump
nothing beats the OEM parts.

I've been hankering after a larger tank for my SM but have heard so many mixed reviews on the IMS items I honeslty don't think I would bother. Some folks seem to have good results. I'm sure we all have different standards, naturally, of what is important, especially where aesthetics are involved. I know Husky retail there own larger tank. Expensive mind.

Please return the IMS tank and demand a refund. That is the only way to hold them accountable for their product. I tried 2 IMS tanks and they both leaked. I returned them and got a full refund.

So how hard can it be in the age of CNC machining and forming, that these goods can be so variable in fit??

i think they need to check every tank before they send it no ?
i cant send it back now because i dont live inteh US and i had to pay 80$ tax for it and 100$ shipping
i dont want to pay 30$ shipping back to them and then more tax for another tank that i am not even positive it will fit more then the one i have.
it doesn't matter i learn from my mistakes

All is not lost. Don't give up just yet. If you're having fitment issues there are a couple of things to do:

1) Get a longer bolt for the front mount where the tank bolts to the frame. Don't take all the way down yet, just get it started.
2) With a heat gun, GENTLY heat the tank at the areas where it is binding around the frame. Just be careful you don't melt a hole in the tank.
3) Work the front bolt down, apply more heat as necessary to pinch points. Again be careful with the heat gun.

The tank is crosslinked PE so it will bend and flex. You can get the tank to "break in" to fit better, all the heat gun does is speed up the process. After a few weeks and a couple of remove/replace cycles, my tank fits just fine. The slight misfit of the shrouds is worth it for the extra range. It's just a consequence of the variations in both the rotomolding process for the tank, and the variations in the frames (I believe our Husky frames are still hand-built).

thanks for the good advice , but i dont think i need to do all this fitments , IMS needs to do it before they sell it.
there is no reason the tank will not fit as the husqvarna tank , if you cant do it , dont sell it.
it is good they dont sell medicines like this.
i put my tank for sell now so thet is for me with IMS tank.

Well, you've been presented with two options now:

1) Return/exchange the tank
2) Make it fit, using heat and some patience

There are actually some very good reasons you might not get a perfect fit: the rotational moulding process creates variability, and the fact that Husky frames have some variability as well. Husqvarna can deal with this in a factory setting by mating a large number of tanks to a large number of frames. IMS doesn't have that luxury.

If you'd rather complain than solve the problem, that's your prerogative.

I think that's excellent advice MontyCarlo, but I'd still be upset if I'd spent that much, with taxes, and found it didn't fit. If the reports on IMS were even 90% good, I'd buy one tomorrow. They must be aware of this issue? As with nimiz1, I couldn't spend the money on a chance.

Mine was a nightmare to install. I finally got it on the frame, but it makes the seat installation a PITA. We'll see about leaks. So far, after a few hours of riding, it's functioned well with no leaks. If I knew then what I know now about IMS tanks, I would have skipped.

This was my first IMS tank and I'm not too pleased with the seat fitment issue. The back of the tank just keeps the seat from sliding far enough forward to fit. Even the IMS tank I just bought for the boys KX85 fits poorly. I have had two Clark tanks in the past and never had any fitment issues. To bad Clark dropped the ball on this - it would be nice to have an alternative to the IMS tank.

UPDATE:

Well, I'm on my second IMS Tank now since the first started leaking at the fuel pump plate. Unlike the original tank, the replacement looks like it has been filed flat at the fuel pump plate, but the cross-hatches were pretty rough, so I spent a few minutes with a sanding block smoothing it out for good measure.

At first, when I test-fitted, it was pivoting/hanging up in the middle

so it would sit on the back posts, or bolt down up front, but not both. But undaunted, I had a second look. I then noticed that in the small triangle where the frame down tube splits into two, there are a couple of Molex connectors hanging out in a little triangular "pocket" there, right where the tank was binding (just above where the computer mounts to the frame).

I moved the connectors down and out of the way, and

A PERFECT FIT****************************************

A lot of complaints about the tank fit have been about it binding in this area, and I wouldn't be surprised if others were stymied by the same little connectors that caused me trouble, so I thought I should mention it here. Only time will tell if it starts leaking at the plate again, but I think the saga of the IMS tank woes may be just about solved ..

And by the way, IMS customer service was top notch. I received my replacement tank in less than a week after a phone call, with a prepaid shipping label included to return the old tank. And since all they want back is the tank (no hardware), I have a few spare bits to add to the parts box as well

2009 With IMS 3.0 gallon tank and stock side plates

Hi, I did this to my 2009 TE450. I just installed the 2010 plates as they have the imbedded graphics. I did this mod with the old plates but the stock stickers were always peeling off. Removing the old plates proved the the glue "Amazing Goop" was holding up very well.

You will have to clean up glue drippings for the first hour, then again with a razor knife the next day.

This is the finished product. I touched up the leading edge where the plate meets the tank to keep branches from getting wedged in. Over all, it looks totally stock.

just seeing how your amazing goop is holding up?
nice job by the way

I want a bigger tank for my bike as well (08 TE450) but all the ims stories are not making me real excited to buy a tank from them. Are there any other tanks being made for the 08-up that are better fitting?

Just got a ''new to me'' 2010 TE250.

looking into getting the IMS fuel tank.

however, IMS is telling me they don't make one for that year.

which tank model is compatible with the 2010 Te250?: up to 2009' or 2011 and up?

I'd rather not to have to modify the stock side plates so the original tank shown at the beginning of the thread seems more appropriate for me.

Thanks for your input!

From what I understand IMS stopped making the tank for the 2010 cause it would leak around the fuel pump.
