• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Improved Fuel Filler Cap

Why vent the cap if the tank is vented?

The cap pictured is the same design he is using for the KTM's. Talked to him today and he didn't realize the Husky tank is already vented. Cutting the caps without the vent will be no problem.

Be aware that the pics were prototypes and the not the finished product.

I talked to John again yesterday and the units should be coming soon. The caps are NOT vented.

I'd really like to see a leash on one of these. All the talk of busting threads goes away if the cap can't hit the ground.

Yeah, good call. Shouldn't be hard, I might actually be able to fab one up with some simple stuff from the local HIW. Tapping the fuel cap in the center for the leash would be the only part I'd have to find some help with (I don't have a tap & die set.....I know, I know....kinda basic stuff I should have). The tab for the cable should fit nicely under one of the 4 allen bolts that mounts the fermale-threaded base.

Update on caps.....

I was able to get one mounted and use it this weekend.... what pleasure to not have to fumble with the key and actually fill it right to the brim.

Let's see....

Husky Speed = $100

Skid Plate = $150

Difference = :excuseme:

:busted:

Everyone is entitled to an opinion and in the end both products accomplish the same thing, eliminating the key, making fill ups less of a hassle.

I saw one of the HuskySpeed caps in person just after I saw one of Jon's caps on a KTM. The differences as far as machining, finish and overall looks on the bike are superior.

Other differences...

Threading,,,Husky speed is more likely to be damaged

Finish,,, Jon's anodizing is top notch and more durable than powder coat.

Venting,,, With Jon's, you have the choice to vent through the cap and pick up a little more capacity.

I've seen people spend alot more money on useless bling than functional bling.

For me the extra money was worth it. ;)

Thank's for the help Scott. Sorry it took me so long to get on here, some confusion with the new C/H account.

Scott has hit on almost all the points I was going to make. The only other is fuel capacity. Safely add 12oz more to your tank, eliminate carrying one of those extra fuel bottles.

When you see one of my kits on your buddy's bike, you'll realize he made the right decision. All kidding aside, these are very nice kits, I'm sure there will be no disappointments.

Best,

Jon

'Splain to me how innie-threads versus outie-threads allows you to add 12 more oz, bitte.

Danke :D .

It's not the threading that does it. Putting on the new cap, along with sealing the forward tank vent, allows you to fill up to the neck of the cap, basically using your full tank capacity. Doing this requires that you use the cap vent.

Thanks

When I originally made the Huskyspeed cap it was for myself because I was sick of that stupid key deal. Other people showed interest so I made some more and sold them. Mainly because it was cool and fun not because I thought I was going to retire from it. Trust me, I run a much more profitable business for my livelihood. Anyway, I thought it was in poor taste to bag on my product to try and sell a similar one. Let your product speak for itself
"the machining is far superior to the huskyspeed cap" No one has ever had a problem with my quality. As a matter of fact, the machines I used cost more than my house!
"Anodizing is tougher than powder coat" I'm a fan of anodizing too. However, it fades bad in UV light. Being on top of the tank I went with the powder coating. Once again no one has had a problem with it
"threading on Huskyspeed cap is more likely to be damaged". Maybe, but so far, it has not been a problem.
Bottom line, it appears to me that your product is very nice and I hope you sell a bunch of them, I really do but as I said before, let the product speak for itself.
Have fun and good luck.
Adam
P.S. I apologize to Cafe if this comes across as spam. It was not my intention.

Thank you for explaining. It looks like you have an awesome product.

It is my hope that this thread remain informative & upbeat, especially now that both people who have created these products have given their input and are now members of Cafe Husky.

Adam,

If you read all the posts, I wasn't the one that brought up your product. Member Nothing Clever compared my Fuel Fill design to yours, and asked what the differences were. A customer of mine stated his opinion about your product and my product.

Personally, I've never said anything about a Huskyspeed product.

Not my style, intention or voiced opinion.

Just to throw it out there, there’s another option of taking the key mechanism out
It’ll still lock but you can operate it with any key or a screwdriver for that matter

Very nice products you guys have there
