  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Need to drop bike about 1.5 -2.0 inches. Precision Suspension in Riverside a good bet? Anyone else here on their tip toes when at stop?? My pant inseam is 30"
 
Yep, I am short too, 30" IS. Did the 1" link and put the forks down to third ring. Still a tall bike but manageable. Never heard of that suspension shop, RG3 is good. Used them twice for some honda USD's.
 
I am 30 inseam. I ride 09 te310. Sent forks and shock to ltr. He put the right springs in them, revalve them, shorten them 3/8 inch. 2nd line on front forks. Set race sag to 115.Works for me.
 
I would not go more than 1''. My wr125 is lowered 1'' and ground clearance is not as good as stock. You hit stuff sometimes you would not on the stock height. Touching the ground is nice but not all that important. All said I would go to 1/2'' at most... if I where to even do it again.

It so happens I have tested a TXC 250 2010 lowered between 1.5''-2'' (not sure) for a female rider. And the handling was terrible. The suspension hardly had any travel left in it. It's just a horrible setup IMO.

Low seat could be the best way to go.
 
As you know, I'm not a very tall rider at all, but I still have managed to resist lowering my TE450. I have the correct sag in the suspension and put a softer Guts saddle on it. I would like to touch the ground better on it, but have not lowered it for the reasons stated in the post above. I'm concerned that it will bottom out on obstacles (like my KLX300 does) and that it might change the handling (although, I don't see how lowering the center of gravity on a big machine like that could be a bad thing). I guess that I am mainly concerned about losing the ground clearance.:excuseme:
 
That's why I haven't lowered my bike either. We go over some pretty tall logs and rocks sometime, and I certainly don't want the bike any lower for creek crossings. I'll have to look into these Guts seats if they help lower the saddle a bit and still maintain posterior comfort (which our seats don't, really lol).
 
my riding is trail and desert/sand (ie. Superstition). I think 1" done by prof should not ruin suspension...I do not jump much so? Maybe I'll try lower seat...as long as there is still enough padding so my butt does not bottom out on seat pan! :)
 
I'm 5'1" with short legs. I like to ride the gnarly stuff and sometimes I need to dab. The first bike I ever revalved and lowered professionally with internal suspension mods (no links or messing with sag/fork height for me, thanks) was my brand new 1997 CR125. It made a huge difference in rideability for me, and I've never looked back. I never really missed the 1.5" ground clearance, except for sometimes riding in deep snow ruts and the like, and I certainly never missed the extra suspension travel. It's not like I was riding the bike on a supercross track. I've had my CR (and all of my other lowered bikes) on a track at one time or another, and I never even thought about the lost suspension travel. Every now and again I will high-center on something that I probably wouldn't have otherwise, but that is a very small price to pay for being much more confident in the nasty. I'm no slouch on a dirtbike, and I love riding in rocks, and I have never had a lowered bike that handled anything less than stellar. On the contrary, my lowered bikes seem to have the edge in the tight single track.

Individual mileage may vary, of course, but I would try to snag a ride on a properly set up and professionally lowered bike before deciding that they all handle like crap.

Im not trying to be the "big guy" but I swear my bike sits too low. Im flat footed and my inseam is 32" Lets measure from the ground to the top mid point of the seat and compare. My yz250 suits me better height wise. It may be that they had to crank down on the stock springs for my weight 200lbs.
