• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

I'm not crazy about this time of year....

Unlike SOME lucky riders:D who got to go out into verdant forests brimming with lush greenery and melting snow pack this week, we had our choice of hot and hotter and also dry and drier. Temps ranged from the high eighties to over the 100 mark depending on where we were during the ride. So here's some pix from our dust bowl dual sport ride yesterday.:D

Rolling into Julian.

See? There's single track; just no trees.

I like how the birds and critters store their acorns for a snack later.

Speaking of snacks, there's nothing like a big bowl of cinnamon ice cream on a hot afternoon.

Nice country! You can't tell from the pics that it was hot. But you can tell from the pics how much better-looking that Husky is than that Pumpkin! :D

:lol: That brings back memories of my '08 KTM 250 XCF-W. That bike would overheat and puke coolant in a blizzard! After selling it to finance my TE 250, I thought the TE had a malfunctioning fan circuit since it NEVER came on during riding. :D

Incredible report, great pics. I used to live right there so that makes the pics extra fun. Thanks!

Sweet! Eric and I have been dualsporting more, too, since the weather has been pretty warm. It's a great alternative. At least you can actually ride to somewhere and have ice cream or a milkshake:lol:

And, dang...that is one sweet-looking Husky! I need to put my stickers on...

:eek:Oh noes....still????:lol::lol::lol:

:o Well, I washed it and then put in on the trailer about an hour later. We went bike camping again last weekend (ride report to come) and now it's dirty again. I dunno, it just refuses to stay clean :excuseme:

I will wash it again this week, but we had such a good time last weekend we're going to retrace out steps next weekend and then it will be dirty again. It's a vicious cycle...:D

Great report DD.

Man I'd swear your riding in the Interior of BC by the looks of the pics.:D

I've never seen acorns in trees like that before.

How far did ya get?

I'm surprised to hear that BC looks like the Anza Borrego desert. Now If by BC, you meant the one down by me (Baja California) it wouldn't sound too surprising.

Our ride started a little late in the morning, but we put about 150 miles on, and I will have to rely on the KTMs speedo, because my speedo wires have been damaged for a while (sometimes they work, sometimes not) and showed that we did 65 miles. We filled up before the ride and during the ride. 65 miles would be some pretty awful mileage for the amount of fuel consumed. I guess that it's off to the dealer today for a new speedo wire.

great photos....sure looks hot and dry....love that pic of you in the mirror...I see you have a moto 8 ....

Dang....you had to show a pic of that cinnamon ice cream :)....now I'm running down to the store to get some..:banghead:

Actually, I'm the rider way up the road in that photo. Jeff is taking the picture there, so it's his noggin in the mirror. I have a Moto7, not an 8 (both great helmets), but I'm actually wearing a Troy Lee Designs SEII on this ride.

Enjoy yer ice cream.:busted:

thought I would add this and get out quick before someone realizes what color my bike is

Sneaky KTM rider sneaking around behind me while I'm puttering down that loose silty trail.:busted:

The trail is steeper than it looks. It's so soft and loose that we got bogged down and somewhat overheated last summer when we went up the thing. So we decided to go down it this time.

Is the area really called "bike slut park"?

It's an inside joke. One of the moderators over at SDAR has the board name of Bikeslut. A few years ago, he and other members went out that way and got into some trouble and Bikeslut ended up having to be airlifted out, and then his bike had to be air lifted out. Here's the link to their ill fated adventure.

http://www.dualsport-sd.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=287&hl=phantom+trail

The trail that they took does indeed go all the way to the lower desert floor, but it is a heck of a trail. Some day Jeff and I plan to take it all the way down in cool weather and after a rain so there is some traction.

Bikeslut even made his sig line look like a helicopter hauling a bike for a little while. Anyway, we nicknamed the place Bikeslutland or Bikeslut park. (It's the highest area of the Anza Borrego desert state park.) I'm not so sure he's too fond of that. He is a good rider, but will probably never go back to that area again.

DirtyD that’s a nice report
I’ll take your dust bowl and trade you a tiny island with too much restricted federal land on it to do anything…
I like the action shots of you on the road, the acorns in the wood and the cinnamon ice cream….yummy…..:D

Now here’s a question for you and a certain G.O.A.T moderator;
What is up with husky girls hanging around with KTM boys?
Are husky boys not good enough or is it because we’re never around???

Gotcha.

I googled "bike slut park" and all sorts of things were in the results
