• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

i would like to acquire an auto . 430 or 500 at some stage in my life

no more talk about craigs list .
yeah yeah those photos are of it on my drive way .
i had never seen the twin brake pedal untill this showed up . was considring a hand rear brake as ive done a lot of mountain biking . and unlike you lot the front brake is on the right side in this country .

also we will sell the black and gold tank as it doesnt fit on this bike . i believe its a 79 ish tank ? front bolt holes way too high for this frame

i bought the bike local . saw him ride it . started it . will take it for a real strop this weekend .
it already has 40mm forks . and some ohlins on the back . its made for riding

Hi Silverstreak
Can you please send some close up pics of the twin rear brake pedal ? (especially under the frame).
I'm restoring my 500 ae frame and a twin pedal could be interesting to use.
I've only seen one on Bo Edberg's 500 AE which stands in HVA museum.
How the 2 pedals are linked on the axle ?
Thanks
Michel

if it makes you feel any better i switch all my mountain bikes to rh front brake, lh rear brake. did it in the shop where i bought it, before it went out the door. the salesman said i was gonna kill myself with the brakes like that! ha!

The left hand rear brake on an auto to me is a must ! So simple to do too. The way I look at it (for enduro's) is that if your feet are off the pegs negotiating some snotty rutted decent .... you have no option other than to use the front brake whilst in freefall ! Bad idea ! The left hand brake makes it superb. It is also great on a mx track for steep decents as it acts like engine braking on a four stroke, keeping your feet on the pegs.

apparently this work was done by someone in sweeden who goes by the initials AC as they engraved them on the barrel and apparently he matched the ports . although i havent been inside so not sure what else and to what extent has been done
enjoy

Hi Silverstreak
Thanks a lot for the pics.
So the left pedal is welded to an axle.
Is the right pedal screwed to axle or can the left pedal move without making moving right pedal ?
What is device in red round ?
What is device in red oval ? Can the 2 links to brake be screwed to adjust tension ?
Thanks
Michel

Grouty
Do you mean that left hand rear brake are better to ride than left pedal ?
In pic the device I made. The wire make a too sharp angle.
Need to find something better.

each pedal moves independently . the silver block just has plain holes through it and the pull rod from each brake lever goes through it and is bent over . so when one pedal moves it pulls the whole block forward but doesnt push the other lever down

Mmmh ! OK.
And how is fixed the little right lever ( not the right pedal) to the left pedal's axle ?
Is there a plug or something like that ?

Michel, I would certainly prefer a left 'hand' brake than another foot brake. The way I figure it is, that you don't take your hands off the bars, whereas you can and do take one or both feet off the pegs. I just keep reminding myself "mountain bike" and all is good.

yeah itll be interesting . however i ride british bikes aswell so that may pay off . but i never have a problem switching bikes anyway

micheal i shall investigate . wonder if it just has flats in the hole etc

Unless of course if its me:D

The 400 was just a liquid cooled 390 to me only better. The 400 is a sweet motor. It's very smooth running like a 250 till we wick it. When it idles we can tell it's not a 250.
It has that deep chug, chug, chug to it.

rode the bike today , 2 rear brakes is awesome . can drift the back into a corner no matter which side then power on

also the kick start is a pos . it some how manages to be worse than the 76 360 and the 82 500
