Hi everyone,
As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.
When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.
Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.
Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.
Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

il give it a crack just scotchbritn with wd40 then the muriatic acid to get an ally off that scotchbrite doesn't.
haha OMG id never seized a bike before but when I did(similar to your experience) I knew straight away what id done. threw up a little bit in my mouth.

be super careful with that stuff. Eats aluminum quickly. Use a Q-tip and only get it on the plated surface of the cylinder where you need to remove stuck aluminum anywhere else it will eat holes. Go slow and keep it isolated.

PB Blaster is amazing compared to wd-40. I penetrates so well that it will get under the aluminum and breaks it loose so the scotch brite will remove it. The Nicasil is so hard the aluminum doesn't stick to it very well. PB also has catalysts that remove oxidation.yes yes yes I agree norm. im a little OCD & like to fiddle(sometimes to the point of breaking stuff). lesson learnt. don't even touch the PJ anymore(3/4 from seated for 125 & 300, still good economy but plenty rich enough for endless deep sand we ride sometimes) & have just left the rod at where it was pre seizure for 125. when I re-165 it I will probably leave it there again as it was really running sweet till I 'tinkered'! 1/4-1/2 turn leaner at most
what the hell is pb blaster doug? parts cleaner type spray?

The Muriatic acid will do wonders on aluminum! And by wonders I mean make it look awesome, but you have to be controlled with it or it will turn the part black.

well spent a coupla hours scouring the cylinder tonight(much to missus disgust/dismay
) with wd40 & scotchbrite/steel wool pads(the soft ones use for silencer repacking of the core). f#*kin hard goin!!! that stuff doesn't come off very easily at all. anyway got it looking pretty good. theres still some marking in the plating where it seized but its like its imbedded in the nikasil? just slight discolouration basically no scratches or anything. smooth to run nail over doesn't catch on anything & cross hatching still visible on most of cylinder. the actual ally from piston was a right prick to get off. I have hardly any fingernails, or fingerprints for that matter, left from scrubbing/scratching/scouring
theres 2 small bits of ally still on wall(1 each side of exhaust port) that for the life of me I couldn't get off. nail doesn't pick up on em, all smooth so bugger it. ended up saying enoughs enough plus I was hungry & tongue'n for a beer.

the Spanish call it "El Gripo"...Just scrotch brite the bloody thing, it's only to deglaze the cylinder, you could spend bucks on flex hone to suit the cylinder size ...some people like'em some don't but l use one on my 360 and 250 cylinder and it's bloody easier than a pad!!
Lucky with the lean seizure, l ran my old KX from the track to the car park via road some 5 kms, had it pinned in 5th, backed of a touch and whacked it again only to perform a great long skid

Give me your valued opinions ladies n gents. I gotta take bowl off lectron on 165 to install the ally 'anti sag bowl device'. I havnt touched rod since I returned it to previous position(pre seizure last year) but am thinkin it could be a bit better down low. Jus feels a bit blubbery n lacking in response. Maybe I'm expecting too much outta the little bike? Great on the pipe but jus feel it could be a fair bit cleaner wen runnin ST in 2/3 gear n outta corners. Noticed it on mx track a bit too.
Starts first kick, piston has bout 15 hours(disgusting I know but I've bn ridin 300 a bit I swear!) on it, silencer/plug/filter/pipe/seals etc all good, 12:48. Idles kinda weird in that it idles high on start up(choke off after firing) then calms down but wen warm idle drops close to stall or will flame out if in gear(clutch drag I guess). Usually jus turn idle up a bit if req which no biggy but jus odd it will idle fine for 5-10 secs then drop down to low rpm(no stall but close) even in neutral, not a hanging idle either more a loading up type thing. 300 doesn't do it-will idle constantly all day?!!
Runnin 0.8mm base gasket but forget squish plus sir Walt recommended for our fuels. May try thinner gasket n check squish wen due for a new slug again but I digress.
My train of thought is:
-it seized a full turn leaner from where it is now which obviously way too far.
-3/4 leaner than where it is would be borderline & under heavy conditions possibly still no good.
-1/2 turn leaner may well be the sweet spot...but maybe err on the richer side?
-1/4 turn leaner may still be touch rich but safe.
They only adjust in 1/4 turn correct?
Should I jus try 1/2 turn leaner(think this will be ok?) to see if it can be better, not jus me expecting too much n jus feel for lean runnin or jus go a 1/4 turn n see? Is a qtr turn that noticeable?
Easy enough to change on these bikes as no need to remove tank(like 300) so can easily adjust it. I'm jus thinkin out loud here is all

Lookin at plugs after general trail riding 300 plug is black & wet(not super oily but a bit) which would seemingly indicate fair bit too rich(runs mint tho?!) n 165 is normally a dark grey n drier than 300 which would seem slightly rich but better than the 300s plug?!

Mine idles the same at current rod length with 3-2m rod and did the same almost with ms-3. I think it's lean down low and a little rich otherwise. Once it's warm pulls strong from idle and rips through the mid to crazy screamin' top, little bit of spooge and slighly dark plug 
If I go 1/4 turn on the rod either way it's too much, so I guess this is the sweet spot for now. Planning to adjust squish/base gasket when it needs a ring, but it's really nit picky 'cause it performs very well.
I wouldn't go more than 1/4 turn at a time, especially considering your previous efforts

I've found out (the hard way) that my setup likes a lot more fuel than most other 165 kits. It also runs much better with the 3-1XL rod and doesn't feel like its starving for fuel at low throttle openings.
I dont get the fuel mileage of the other local 165 guys, but she runs real hard and fueling feels great.

I'm gettin 60-80 miles riding dependent before reserve so economy sweet
Runnin ms3 rod which I think is similar to 3-1xl jus custom grind? Flame out is probly harsh more jus idle too low wen in gear n she konks out/dies if don't catch it with throttle. Can turn idle up to counter this but then it's slightly high in neutral. Might try a 1/4 turn each way n c wat happens.
