I screwed up, big time - Terra Cylinder/bore Kit

Hey guys, so i've been very happy with my terra for the few months i've had it (first bike) but today on the highway my rear suddenly locked up. Im lucky i didn't crash cos i was going 110kph, but essentially i took it to mechanic mate and he said the cylinder's funked, we did a compression test and it was at roughly 100psi, there was fuck all oil because he thinks a ring failed, the engine knocks and he said it's probably gonna need new rings, piston and a rebore. I had another friend tell me that you could get away with putting a new cylinder kit in but i have no idea where to find one. Any help with this stupid dump ass of a mistake i made?

Why to you say you screwed up ?, what is the mistake you made ?

The cylinder is a Nikasil coating so it would probably only need honing and recoating

I'm not sure of the quality of the nikasil. The husky/cagiva we had one tough nikasil cylinder from the factory. The bore survived and we just installed a new Kawie piston. When I was logging the husqvarna saws with many years and hours of use if the piston blew the cylinders were ok. Just a new piston.

My point is if these new Husqvarna bikes have the same nikasil quality you may get lucky. I have gear driven hones used for boring. The stones come in all grits. One set is for nikasil.

Same happened to me, but instead of locking up, I lost compression. A bit of piston was left on the wall, but it was able to be cleaned up. Only a piston kit was required. I've done 3000km since then and so far so good.
The bike shop that did my repairs looked at the eBay offerings at my request, but were of the opinion that the cylinder wear looked more then expected for the stated mileage.

The engine ran out of oil, i think it was caused by my piston rings because the bike blew white smoke under hard throttle but i thought nothing of it because it wasn't blue. Had to put 2.5 L of oil in it when we tested it.

Yes it does knock while running, mainly as the RPM drops after revving and the rear locked because the engine started to cease.

Trouble shooting:

Tested compression - 100psi
Test Plugs - No Issues
Checked oil - no oil, filled with 2.5 L of 10W50
Started engine with new oil, ran it for a bit. Power was restored but slightly less and had loud knocking as RPM dropped.

No Engine mods, fully stock and no ECU issues as of yet

I've been trying to find a piston kit but havent seen one anywhere. Im in Australia.

My bike has done 25000 K's

I didn't check for oil, the bike ran out of it on the highway and caused the engine to ceased.

I should've noticed something wrong when it smoked under hard throttle but it thought nothing of it because it was white smoke and not the tell tale blue.

If you ran it out of oil, you may have more severe problems, like crank bearings etc.

Are you going to do a full teardown?

If not, I would buy the used stuff on ebay.

Not that i can tell, i think it was a piston ring.

The guys at full throttle are good but they are just so busy. If you purchased the bike there Luke is pretty fair with his charges.

Dust in airbox will not cause the total immediate failure that the OP has experienced. If it was a problem (and I do not think it is) you would notice noise and plenty of smoke from excessive wear etc first.

2.5l of oil could be the problem,, she should need 2l on a normal oil shift change, when you change oil-filter too.
Over filling can give compression problems, been there done that with a straight 6 cylinder car.

It's a weird way to check oil levels on the bike, so overfilling is my worry too.

From the manual

The oil level must be checked with the vehicle in vertical
position on a flat surface.
- Start the motorcycle and heat the engine until the
cooling fan starts; wait for another 3 minutes and
switch off the engine.
- Check the level as follows:
- Undo the cap (1) with the dipstick (2) and remove
it from the frame.
- Clean the dipstick (2) with a cloth.
- Place the dipstick (2) in the hole (3) without
screwing the cap on.
- Remove the dipstick (2) from the hole (3) and
check that the level is between the two MIN and
MAX marks.

I would check the amount of metal, stuck to the draining plug.
