  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc I Rode The Prototype Wr200 And It Is Amazing...

Looks like a Gasgas 200 or Suzuki PE175 sized piston but with one ring. I want one of these kits bad! Keep up the great work you guys are doing!

Thanks for the demo, I will get this cylnder out to Walt ASAP,Just need to know what to send with it etc.
Dave

That cylinder will work fine, that scratch will be long gone. We are still working on logistics but ultimately Walt is building the kits and I am supporting them. Send the cylinder to Walt. You will most likely get it back from me all ready to go. We are still working out the details and kits.

here is the 125 piston int he 165 cylinder, as you can see the scratch will be long gone...

far out that piston looks big can wate to swing one of my rod my 04 has only got 5hrs on it look like ill have 2 spears for the 99 mod

Just looking at the above picture It would appear that the pin is offset in the piston. Is that what you wanted of just the base blank they modified to your specifications. I hate to divert your thread but is there a logic to this offsetting of the pin and do other 167 kits generally have an offset pin.

They offset the pin 1mm to the exhaust side. The yz125/144 motors went this way and I chose to keep that as part of the design. I don't know the exact engineering behind the design as those days are 30+ years in my past. I expect there is some minimal advantage on the power stroke down with a sligtly more vertical force on the y-axis between the pin position and the big end pin position. I like the way mine is wearing and had a lot of hours on the yz144 piston in a couple of top ends with good results. So it was a conscious decision with minimal understanding of why the engineers at Yamaha chose this design.

Offset pins help to reduce piston rattle as well as improve ring seal by consistently loading the skirt and stabilizing the piston.

You might remember I tried to innocently go down that path a little over a year ago with a few closeout 125's and was publicly chastised and hammered for months by both dealers and customers alike. Was not pleasant for anyone and hurt my biz and reputation, it sucked. Was very unexpected and I was floored by the negative response and obviously had not thought the repercussions of offering a few bikes that we setup for the customer through. I am treading real light this time. The engine kit is very good and we are testing different pipes and setups so i can speak intelligently and steer customers in the right direction for setting up the kits to work for their personal needs. Walt approached me about doing this and was driving this, I am not jumping in last minute to try to rake in a profit. I have known Walt for years now since we rode for a week in Moab and think we have a nice mutual respect and good working relationship. Our testing sounds "fun" but really we have spent good time and development on the 125 platform after I sold my personal and very farkled 08 TXC450 to get the new 09 WR125 and start down this path. This sparked a whole moment (which I'm not taking all the credit for in any way, many were there before me) resulting in Scott Harden posting here that husky should be giving me bikes as I influenced so many 125 sales it was obvious to him/them. This is all good stuff and fun to be involved in. We will stock and be a point of resource for Walts very nice kits. This allows us to help the customer decide on the right setup for them and leaves Walt free from the retail side of things to do what he needs / wants to do. It should be a very good way for everyone to get in on this and be supported.

As for additional parts I am already in process with graphics and skid plates for the 125. We already have disk guards, rad guards, dampers and other products for these 125's. If someone wants a package deal that is never an issue. As for a HM Honda type deal I don't think there is a big calling for that although I love the idea and would love to be part of something bigger like that. This industry is very soft and like everyone else we are struggling and cutting where we can or have to. I would love to toss money and several projects but need to be real careful so we do not end up closing like a lot of other big and small companies in this dying industry and can stay afloat. Runniong a small biz, heck any biz in this MC industry right now is done a lot for passion as much as profit (ask my wife :>). I really want to support this effort, LOVE the 125 platform as you all know and feel we have years of testing and experiences to add to the wealth of knowledge and effort here and will do what we can / what the customer needs.

I appreciate the input and thoughts for direction. Walts kit is fantastic and we are 100% on board. We have cylinders off to him and things are rolling. It is in it's infancy and test phase so there is a little time before this is production ready and support is in place. As you all know we freaking love the brand, have been in this Husky game since 04 (when I bought my first new husky the TE450) when almost no one else wanted anything to do with it or wanted to offer any support and product for a small brand. It has not been an EZ path to take with severely limited customer base. We are working within our means to continue this support for the brand and this is just another great product we are supporting development on and being involved with because we believe in it, have tried it and understand it. Thats how we work here, offer things we build or have tested and can speak intelligently about. I could make all sorts of little shinny anodized trinkets and sell them on eBay and make more money but thats not the passion we have here. My TT name is Ride because it is that simple for me. I freaking love to ride like some people like crack. I love the people involved in this industry and Husqvarn it self (bikes, customers and company). People that know me know that. Husky is the brand I choose and work my ass off to stay in a position to make my Motosportz effort support the dream. I wish for bigger things like all the great suggestions here but reality is I struggle to pay my share of the family bills while I toil away at making some profit in a very small industry. I have a very supportive family and customer base and thank all of you :notworthy:.

We love this effort and will support it as we can. Please keep the suggestion coming and work with us to make this a great effort. Sorry for the long drawn out and sometime off topic post. Passion gets in the way sometimes.

This is a great thread. Thanks for detailed dissertation K.
I did not know that noses were tweaked.
Also to add to my example list remember HM Honda is THE Honda importer for Italy, so they are like the Husqvarna NA of that country. They have say over how they present the machines and have special relations with honda Japan, just like our (sort of US model)TXC model for example. You will also see that Valenti Suzuki the Italain importer also builds enduro comp versions of Suzuki's as well as the standard MX versions.
PS be nice and gentlemanly to the new bike dealers and distributors but F the tweaked noses, take "used" bikes for the custom builds and sell them as used bikes with all the kit stuff on them.
sorry I got some moto passion going there, this is not my biz. seperate parts kit kit kit that is the answer you guys got it dialed in.

So the plan right now is if anyone wants to take a quick rip on this 165 I will be at Diamond Mill parking lot this Saturday 1/7/12 and will let you sample it. Will park near the rear of the lot in a gold ford F150. I plan to be there at 9:30 and you can try it til noon at which time the bike will misteriously disappear into the woods with me on it. :D

I will be at this demo day with my fam... I will be bringing my boys 70cc he got for christmas so he can play around in the kiddie area. I will also be bringing my 09 wr125, and it will be available if anyone wants to try the bikes out back-to-back for true comparison.
