  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

i don´t get it

up here in Southern Ontario it cost me to get it done at the dealer nearly $550 with labor and tax etc. I think it took him an hour or so. The dealer would probably need to order those parts in too. Not something one would keep in stock unless they knew about this issue and were doing a lot of them. This upgrade makes a huge difference in the power delivery of the bike. the response of the bike when you crack the throttle is way smoother . One thing to note... is the Throttle Stop Position needs to be reset using the ibeat software for this injector/ecu combo to function flawlessly. My bike came powered up and I still wasn't satisfied with the way it performed.. I tried the JD-tuner but didn't; make enough of a difference. Many of us have been down this road with our 250's and 310's. and many agree that this is the way to go...
Hey Laura i hope you are wrong about the power up not being enough i am picking up my bike this week end and it cost 340.00 dollars to get the work done by the dealer. If i need to spend another 550.00 i will lose my mind. I never mentioned that the plastic tail section snapped off the first time i touched a tree and a rear blinker snapped as well.. i am not replacing them but my klx had rubber mounted turn signals and they never broke off you just snapped them back in. I am renaming this bike the money pit if it does not run right after this power up mod.

I ordered the parts for the power-up (resistor, air filter cage, and O2 sensor plug) and the TXC ECU and 12-hole injector from Bills Motorcycles Plus in Oregon. If you've already had the power-up done, then the injector and ECU are about $380 together. Not particularly difficult to install, but you do have to remove the tank, and possibly the throttle body, to do the job. I did mine while I had the rear shock out for a spring swap, so I was able to replace the injector without removing the throttle body. If you do it yourself, make sure you get a small can of Kroil and squirt some on both of the fuel rail screws and let it soak in for about an hour before trying to remove them, or you will probably strip out the heads of the screws. They are pretty soft.
I really hope i don,t have to do this.

I agree 100% with Laura I went the same route I tried the JD it was ok but not great, then a hi-perf injector with the JD it was better but not great. Then I went with the TXC Injector/ECU, and it is like an entirely different machine. Mine would often stall on the track or in really rough terrain for no reason at all it would just die, it was very frustrating to say the least. I think it was so choked up it would just get really hot and die. But after you get them uncorked whoa mama hang on! Fun,Fun,Fun!
Hey D. Did you have this done after the power up mod or did you do it instead of the power up mod.

Believe it or not, my 2010 TE250 runs good with the stock ECU and 4pt injector with just some I-beat tweaking.

Still a little weak on the bottom but I can lug it, WFO it and it no longer stalls.

Runs almost as good as my Yamaha WR with a carb...almost!

I had it done after the power up, mine still didn't run correctly after the power up. But i know of others that have so i think it might be a little luck of the draw. I was also coming off of a KTM450 that ran extremely well so maybe I was overly sesitive.

I also came from a KLX 250 that ran really well. It was just too heavy for me. Not much other experience on bikes. Only been riding a couple years

I hope you don't have to spend anymore either.. My bike has definitely been a "MONEY PIT" I blew the engine up when the oil line got snagged on something and it cost me $2000 to get it rebuilt.. I just spent another $1800 on a bunch of maintenance and repairs, plus some front end suspension work.. Also added a rekluse clutch too.. I spend more on this thing than I do on my car. But I can't live without dirt biking

So don't feel too bad......Keep us posted...

If you spent $340 you are probably getting more than the basic power-up. All it consists of is an unrestricted filter frame, a resistor plug, and an O2 sensor plug. It's about a 15 minute job. When you get the bike back, take a look at the injector and see if it is yellow or green.

I'm looking for a flexy mount or flush mount turn signal set as well! Please let me know if you find a good set for a 2012 TE250.

On the other engine issues, my dealer was kind enough to warn me, and I just agreed to all of his recommendations because I'm such a rookie. For a few hundred $$ he put on a lower sprocket ratio, a power-up and swapped to the Race Map 1. He told me without the mod, it would stall a lot and be restricted to somewhere around 9HP, and basically be close to unrideable. It looks like the O2 sensor is gone & plugged, the filter cage is modified, the EVAP canister is gone, some baffles in the exhaust have been removed, and the dash indicates "Race Map". I have a box of "extra" parts. I'll have to see if the injectors were swapped too. Seems to be pretty sweet now. Good luck! Hope you find a good dealer who knows what to do!

I knew a guy that used to work for a large mountain bike company that used Marzocchi shocks. He said that it was strange that while most of the units they received were fine, every once in a while, they would get a batch where several were so bad that they were unusable and had to be sent back.

He attributed the problem to what he called ”Wine Wednesdays”.

Its a condition where our wine loving Italian friends become depressed that the work week is only half over. So they bust out the vino at lunch and the rest of the day is when the rejects get built.

I think they made your bike on a Wednesday...

9 horsepower? I thought the 310s were supposed to put out around 45 horsepower?

Now that is funny and so true, my bike was a Wednesday bike! It took me half the summer to get it ironed but now it rips! Have faith, I was ready to send mine down the river more than once, but now I am glad I stuck with it. When I pull into a rest stop with the rest of my buddies or at the track the conversation always turns to my Husky. Its nice to have something different in a sea of red, orange, and green.

your dealer was right on and deserves a big kiss lol. now back to my dealer this is funny I sent my buddy to get the bike because my trailer is under 4ft of snow. the dealer would not let him pick it up even through he knows both of us. I had to drive an hr to the dealer to sign a release for my buddy to pick it up hopeful on monday. The bill seemed fair I did get a copy of what was done and the charges I will upload it for you to look at I don't think they did any thing but the 1st service and the power but I am hoping it is enough.

I thought the manual calls for 50 weight oil?

Might be hard test riding the bike in 4ft. Of snow. I had mine out in a foot and a half on the weekend, that was interesting. Cant see those slippery, angled logs buried underneath. Based on your receipt, it looks like they did the power up but the whole picking up the bike waiver thing is bull. With all this digital technology, could you not fax or email permission? And did I read that the dealer only takes cash? If that's true......OMG.

As for the turn signals. My whole back unit came loose the first ride and got caught in the back tire...ripped right off. Hand signals are my procedure now for the back. Fronts are still on.

I don't doubt the happy hour those factory workers partake in. Makes me wonder about buying another husky down the road.

Oh and the oil I use is Motul full synthetic 7100 10W60. This stuff is not cheap either, but my mechanic highly suggests using it. Specially since I blew my engine up.
