  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

i bought a new 2012 te310 about 2 mos ago. traded a klx 250s. i still have a crf 250 but wanted to still have a plated enduro for local hare scrambles etc.. the first time i rode this bike it did a random stall on a hill stopped dead at 15 plus mph 1st gear sent me flying and broke my foot. i finally got back this week and the bike stalls for no apparent reason. it will seem to run normal but need a lot of clutch work to keep it going then without warning stall. it has 200 miles now and it runs like crap at any time it can stall. i am not digging this bike and i am beginning to think i should have gone with yamaha. the thought of having to pay to get a new bike to run right seems stupid to me. this bike was not cheap. i have always had jap bikes and no problems. can any of you help me understand what's up and how to fix it without spending a bunch of money. thank m

For the record, I have not kept up with the xlite bike issues, and the last time I did efi work was on the 2009 bikes - wish I could help, but cannot.

is the bike powered up? also, the JD Tuner helps quite a bit (but read the thread regarding the new ECU and 12 hole injector, that seems to be the way people are going now).

so what I am hearing is it is my problem not Husqvarna's problem that they sold me a $7000 bike that does not run right and the only way to fix it is for me to buy parts etc.. No offense to any one who bought one of these bikes but that is insane. Like I said above I have owned plenty of bikes all Japanese built in the last few years 2 crf's, 1 yamaha yz 426 and a kawi klx 250's and never has any of them needed any thing out of the box to run properly. Thanks for your help.

I'm with you on this. My first bike ever was an '11 TXC 250. I have spent a lot just trying to get it to run as well as my high school student's $2500, eight and ten year old bikes. I wish I had some advise, but all I can do is agree.

Don't forget that the TE Huskys are street legal in fifty states which obviously includes CA with their crazy CARB standards. In order to be CARB compliant, the bikes come in a state of tune that is less than optimal from a performance perspective or any perspective for that matter unless your blood happens to be green.
Looking down your list of Japanese bikes, I don't recognize any as being street legal and probably explains why you didn't need to do much to get them to run in an acceptable manor.
I think if you do a search in the 4ST forum, you will find a lot of valueable information.
Don't give up, your Husky is a great bike and worth the time and yes money to get it right.

edit- I misread your post and now see one of your bikes was a KLX 250 a plated bike. What I can say is that your KLX250 probably didn't loose much of what performance it had to begin with to comply with the standards.
When you get your TE sorted out, I doubt you will ever look back.

the bike comes with the power up kit, just not installed (so the bike meets all 48 (or maybe 50) state requirements). I agree, you don't get the JD kit. But I disagree with trying to come it to a klx250s. i owned an '09 klx250s, and you cannot compare the 2 bikes. riding the klx through the woods, i was constantly replacing parts, and the bike was ridiculously strenuous on the body. if you are riding alot on the road, then the klx wins. i road 95% offroad, and would never go back.

Thanks Robert it is bad on me for not doing more research on this bike. The reviews in the mags etc raved about it as the ultimate dual sport dirt bike but I never saw any one say it runs like junk unless you spend a bunch of money time etc.. getting it sorted out. I will probably beat on it for a little while and trade it for a bike that will run or at least from a company that will fix it without charging me for there mistake. I am thinking KTM or the yamaha if you have ridden one of the other brands enduros lmk your thoughts.
thanks m

Hi jxg I am not saying the klx 250s was a super dirt bike. It was street legal and pretty good in the dirt it also cost about $4500. The point I am making is it ran properly and did not need a bunch of work and money to get it to run and for the record I was faster on the klx then this husky cause I did not have to restart it every 5 mins. The suspension was junk but at least it ran. I bought the te 310 as an upgrade as i also ride 90% dirt I thought this would be a good choice I was wrong.

I have a 2009 TE510 and struggled with the same issues as you do. In addition to this bike I've had various Yamahas and Hondas over the years and every single one of them has been absolutely solid with much attention payed to detail right off the showroom floor. I purchased the Husky solely for the plate, and at the time had any of the big four japanese manufactures offered something comparable I would have snaped it up in a second. With that said, after some going through I have to admit this bike is superb. It came from the factory, in my opinion about 90% complete. It seems like they leave it to the consumer to complete the detail work. I spent the better part of year dialing this bike in. A lot of the things I did were free and more detailed oriented but there were things that cost extra cash (Like the JD tuner which made a night and day difference). In the end I feel it was worth it because of how well the bike works. It flat rips, and handles very well for a big bore 4t. Your bike is a generation newer and should be even better. Over all I think we had similar expectations for our new bikes, and I know it's a hard pill to swallow but give the bike a chance, dump in some extra cash for well researched goodies and enjoy. After all, if you try to sell the bike for something else I'm sure you'll end up spending serval thousands of dollars to save a few hundred. BTW the guys on KTMs i ride with (the newest one is an 09 so this comment may be irrelevant) struggle with the same lack of attention to detail as we do with our Huskys, so if you go orange expect more of the same.

Thanks for the insight and I have to admit you are right. I guess I am a little more teed off cause I broke my foot because of the stall issue. I have climbed that hill 50 times with out a mishap and bang not just a stall but a full lock up and off i went. Your point about losing money on a trade in is true. I guess if it is a matter of a couple of hundred ok but if it turns into thousands then no way. i will say this bike's suspension and brakes are the best I have ridden even a touch better then my honda 250 which I love. I will try the jd tune and see what happens and thanks for the heads up on the ktm. I guess if I trade it will be for the yamaha.

You're in the same boat as all of us who bought one before 2013. I was lucky enough to find this site a day after I bought mine, dropped some cash on the suggested mods (I went for Power commander/autotune) and my bike is just plain badass now. It does suck that Husky sold a bike that was pretty frustrating to deal with out of the box but once it's sorted it's one of the best out there IMHO.

Get the 12 hole injector/ECU UPGRADE.

$380 or so.

See Racing parts catalog. http://www.halls-cycles.com/fckimages/file/Special_Parts_2012_IT-EN.pdf

Mine ran pretty good and was getting better but this was it. No stall, nice and rich....better curve.

Even George thought it was worth it....

Hey G
is this something I can do myself. I assume the parts are $380? I don't want to pay a big labor bill on top. I am pretty sure i can do the jd tuner myself. If you did the 12 hole etc.. yourself give me a heads up as to the skill and time needed to do it.
thanks

Even the '13 had/has out of the box issues. My dealer took care of getting it in order though as it should be. I was a bit peeved as I expected this bike to "Run Like A Honda" at least while stock in so far as reliably running. Sure it might be choked and down on power but stalling and state of tune issues.... There is no excuse. The bike is not perfect but to be honest, there isn't much pride in manufacturing today anywhere. From cameras to cars, bikes, etc.. It's up to the buyer to sort things and follow through with dealers and manufacturers. It sucks but at least these days we can commiserate on the interweb ;-/

Left it at George's and he did it. I've heard the injector can be a bit hard to remove but the ECU is just plug and play. He did say it was a bit too rich for riding around town so he put it on his AFR module. So, could be something frustrating if you lack a little expertise. The injector is loctited in and the new one should get some loctite on install. I'm sure he used his AFR because it made it easier to gauge his iBeat adjustments.

Others around here have done it. I think you could eventually get it but you will need iBeat...pretty sure. Search the ECU/Injector threads ....at least one blow by blow description I remember. You could call George and get his advice too.

I guess I haven't read many of the 310 threads. I've got a couple of friends over here that bought them and have been raving about 'em but they also don't have all of the emissions crap on the models they sell here.

Hey Johnrg
I can't go there with you I have bought a lot of bikes over the years. I just traded my 2011 gsxr 750 for a speed triple my first non-jap street bike both bikes were perfect. I still have a 2010 kawi z1000 that is a complete beast and all the other bikes i have had r-1,r-6,hayabusa,b-king etc.. as well as my dirt bikes have been flawless out of the box. This husky italian made is not up to par with the other makes. i have been reading a bunch of posts today and I realize this bike from the factory and it's dealer network is a mess. No other make of bike i have had functions like this. I will try and sort it out but I cannot recommend this bike to anyone and I can't chalk it up to that's the way it is for all makes because I have not found that to be true at all. As a matter of fact I was watching the AMA motorcross pro race last week and one of the riders lost his factory ride that week and he went and bought a Honda 450 and raced it out of the box and came in 5th I think in the main betting James Stewart etc.. Think about it a brand new out of the box crf 450 was raced at the highest pro level and the guy was top ten. That's a long way from were we are with this bike.
peace m
