• Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hydraulic Clutch??

Uptite is making a conversion for the cable to hyd. for the 610. I don't know if they are done yet but you might give them a call,

Ive done time with an XR650 that had that conversion.

Worked great.

Better than the OEM Husky units, IMO.

They hydro/cable hybrid does not sit in the motor, and so it doesnt heat up and cause the issues the OEM design does.

Ive thought about adapting the XR650 model onto my 610, but havent done it. It would take some minimal bending and drilling for fab a plate to hold it, and maybe some cable work, but really it shouldnt be that hard.

Contact Rob at BarnumsPro for insights. He's done it to a few bikes, but not a Husky as far as i know.

Hope that helps.

Whats wrong with the cable clutch? I like simple and mine seems to work fine. Never even notice it. :excuseme:

The 610's is pretty hard, and tends to snap. mine did today @4k miles and motoxotica told me that was better than most

We have one on our site we had built to our specs. Much stronger and has a nice liner. I find it EZ to pull and have not had an issue. understand where you are coming from though.

Every oil change and air filter service I remove the clutch lever (on a Monday), clean the lever and perch, (I already have the cable routed as straight as possible with no tight bends), clean the cable end. Then, put on this goodie,

http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com/1/4/65/4838/ITEM/Motion-Pro-Cable-Luber.aspx

Then shoot some spray can brake parts cleaner into the cable until it blows out onto the top of the tranmission. I've learned to put a rag down there. Then I shoot some spray silicone to blow the cleaner out. Then remove the luber and set the cable pointing straight up and let dry for awhile. Then for the rest of the week I drip a drop of light oil onto the cable and let it run down into the housing everytime I go out to the garage. Finish all the other service work. By fri. your cable will be clean and well lubed. Apply a little grease on the end and wipe your greasy fingers across the lever pivot and put the damn thing back together and you won't believe how easy it pulls****************************************
I'm at 9500mi. on the orginal cable and there's still guys scratching their heads wondering why my clutch pulls so easy. It's called TLC!!

Thanks, our mechanic has done a few other bikes also but not a Husky.

I tried to get some more info about which Magura set up would be best for the Husky but can't even get info on the line length or any of the monting options.

So you think the unit for the XR650 may possibly work with a fabbed mount?? Can you measure the length of the hydraulic line on the unit you have?

I hate the cable clutch on this bike. I like simple also but this one is just too stiff, not smooth and something to worry about snapping the end off just when I pull up to the start line. I've spent quite a bit of time trying to make it better but then I get on the 950 ADV and with one finger pull in the clutch. :excuseme:

I've tried 3 different cables, including yours, and haven't noticed a big difference in any of them.

After fighting with many different setups on my KX250 a while back I was skeptical that a certain type of cable would make much of a difference until I installed my new cable from Motosportz this weekend for my new to me 07 TE610. I had no choice since I bought the bike used with a broken clutch cable. It was attached to the lever by a pair of vise grips and hose clamps and was not easy to pull. I tried it after I removed it and it wasn't too bad but the new one slid very easily. After installing, I thought it was out of adjustment since it was so easy to pull but it worked fine. Very easy to pull, will continue to clean and lube as in previous posts.
Thanks Motosportz.

Will the 630 clutch fit the 610. If so what happens at the actuator arm in a swop?

(Old thread alert!)

No. One is hydro, one is cable. Totally different assemblies. The OEM hydro clutch attaches to the case, there are a bunch of features on the case that don't exist on the 610 in order to accept this.

The hydro conversions for cable bikes just replace the cable with a hydro unit, linked to the same actuator arm that the bike came with.

What is this witchcraft you speak of?

Yeah and for what it's worth, I replaced the og. cable at 12,000mi and have 10,000 on this one. I know a guy who has been through 6 cables in the same amount of time on his SM 610.

PS. I wrote that a long time ago I think.

+1 on the Motosportz cable. I've had it for awhile now and it's been fine. Much better than OE cable.
