• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

If I recall threre is just a plastic or nylon spacer and the bearing's seal on origional equipment. The bearing that protects is generally the first one to go bad. I take it from the picture that the splines go far enough for your parts to create a real seal but still an avenue for dirt along the splines exist. The stock aluminum piece and the nylon spacer can be pretty worn on used equipment.

I would put silicone on the splines to stop the running seepage. But when the seal at the bearing is shot it's a temporary fix. This is a good idea but make sure we put plenty of lube on the seal. Just incase the seal on the bearing is good so we don't burn the seal up.

I'm going to go broke soon buying the hva parts.

RUNNING SEEPAGE,

Funny word. When I was a jeep 4x4 mechanic I first heard this word. To me any leak is unacceptable. I heard the head mechanic tell this to a customer when the bottom if his jeep was soaking wet with oil. Running seepage to me is unacceptable. Only Harleys are allowed to leave there mark. When I heard the new buzz word "running seepage" I almost laughed out loud.

HVA thanks for solving this problem.

you wont regret dealing with andy, anything i have gotten from him is well made. the cast version of the ignition cover is a MUST have. fit and finish is great, and makes a great seal with the fiber gasket.

Once I recoup from the holiday spending ill make a list of HVA parts for one restoration/build.

Right on Bill.
I still have a 1970 CJ5 and have the "running seepage" in spite of the silicone on the output splines. It needs to be redone because the silicone gets pounded out.

Love the Dauntless Buick 225 V6 and Warn overdrive though:)

No ****************************************

The spline is only there to give you drive to the spacer!

There is a shaft seal also behind the steel spacer trapping the bearing/shaft interface (that you cannot see in the pics).

Hope this clears that up.

A film of Silicone to stick the seal holder in place will be needed though - or use an ignition gasket...

Merry Christmas and thanks for all of your support through the year.

Andy.

I put a thin layer of silicone behind the original plate.

Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, Happy Haunaka, to everyone and happy new year.
