  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

thats what I thought to ...but nothing.
my 2007 te 250 is a mitsuba 14 husky change up the starter in 08......
but the 07 works in my the 08....

Have you thought about getting it repaired rather than sourcing a new or refirbished unit.

Any automotive electric shop should be able to get the brushes that you need. Or rebuild it for that matter.
Or even a motor rewinding shop?
I am a mechanic by trade and they look like pretty common brushes (knowing the size of a bike starter, they look like common alternator brushes (bosch etc). An auto elec should easily be able to refurbish it.

I just had my 2010 TE450 starter apart and it looks fine, brushes have alotta life left, fairly clean in there, shaft still greasy on the end. Put it back together and no joy, no E-start, just hangs up on the compression stroke. Tried jumping it with car battery, no joy, it's not the battery, not the wires, not the auto decomp.

Starters are starters, any good auto starter shop should be able to help you out, worst case they may have to file down some brushes to fit your starter but most do that on a daily basis.

If I could be sure that rebuilding my starter would fix my problem, I'd pay $100, but I think that would be $100 down the drain. My starter spins the motor, with the compression release pullled in, but cannot get over the compression stroke.

Call or email Rob Lang at Ross Rocher Sales in Ontario. We have a used TE250 engine that we are parting out. I am also 90% sure have a new starter in stock that we can make you a deal on.

rob@rossrochersales.com or (519)393-6660

At the risk of stating the obvious, be sure you run the starter on a bench from a HIGH CURRENT 12 V. power supply. It won't work otherwise.

Does anyone know where I can find the plastic brush holder for this ducati model starter....Also I can't find the part throught the part number(shown on picture)!PLEASE HELP!
Thank you!

hi there,i managed to find the parts for the starter at a quad shop today cost £30.00 for the parts. my brushes were less that one quarter the length of the new ones. cleaned all the parts and its back on the bike and cranking like a new one. took a load of pictures if anyone wants a look in the future. very tight getting the starter off the te449,had to take all the bolts out of the engine mounts, slack the exhast bolts and sub tank, then lever the engine to one side with bits of wood to get it out. tight but doable lol.
