• Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Husky riders in Michigan

I would like to know how many Husky riders here are from Michigan and if there would be any interest in planning a Husky trail ride day this riding season.

If there is interest than I would post a thread in the "Rides and get together" section.
 
When I was up in Wolverine riding last August, CH member Chopsuey mentioned that most of the northern lower Michigan counties now allow you to ride your unlicenced dirt bike or quadtard down the edge of the roadway, going from one trail section to another.

I haven't researched the statute, but assuming it's correct, this could have a big effect on turnout as guys with TC's, TCX's etc. could come w/o fear of getting a ticket.

Myself and a friend have been loosely planning to come up at the end of May or early June. Not cast in stone, but the weather is usually better around then. I'm open to suggestion!
 
We rode the Michigan cross cycle trail MCCT? last summer/fall. Used a TE & TC 450. We had both licenced - but they did not need to be!
Great trip, physically hard, but mentally tough - we had to ride alot in the rain and cold - made the trip one to remember!

Paul from Northville here. I try to join in on the GLDS rides (www.gldsmc.org) On the weekends I can't get up North, head west on the dirt roads to the likes of Hell, Dexter, and so on to clear the head. See you are member of the CCC, understand there is perhaps a rift between the organizations Don't care to engage is any discussion on that as in the words of John Travolta in Wild Hogs " I just wanna ride"

I have a ride planned for first week of June in the UP, but other than that will hook up with the GLDS group. If you are not familiar with them generally have about a 120-140 mile ride on Saturdays, and about 80 miles on Sundays. Dues will set you back a staggering $10 per year, but it is worth many times that amount. At the rides they provide roll charts and GPS tracks for the routes and stage generally from camp grounds. Saturday nights they offer Pot Luck Dinners that, on your first ride you consume your annual dues worth of food.

Check out thier schedule and perhaps arrange a Husky weekend at one of the rides and I would hope to join.

Had not heard about any riff. Like you "I just want to ride".

Nothing against dual sport but this would be a trail ride. I am not street legal and would not want to exclude any that are not. With the passage of the orv bill and almost all of the northern counties passing the ordinance this should make it easier to plan something all can enjoy.


Again, I am just throwing this out there to gage interest. Would be nice to get a group of Huskys together.

Yes it is a small world! I am not a full fledged member yet. They are quite selective of who they let in the fraternity. LB is quite the character and a damn good guy. As are all of the Treewhackers.

Tell LB and Lee, Mike Marsh says "Hi" and hope they are enjoying themselves this winter.

Glad you are coming to Mi to ride. Will be nice to meet you.
 
Will do! Known LB and been riding with him for over 15 years now. Met him his first year out here in AZ after he retired. Yeah, I'm "2" strikes away from being a full fledge member with my 2 throw aways. Besides that, I think I'm too young!! We don't get to ride in to many tornados, and I have NO intentions of doing a top end in the middle of a trail! Yeah... The requirments are steep, but once your in, your golden! Keep in touch. I'm thinking we'll do 2 days, not necessarily back to back, either a day or so before the 4th of July weekend, or for sure the beginning of that week. I grew up back east riding in Micihigan so I need to get my annual "fix" of MI trails and whoops. LOVE the desert, but the best trails are still in your neighborhood. Anyone who hasn't experienced it, really should. There's a reason so many AMAZING riders come out of that state. It's just that good....

For anyone who's curious, here's a link to the Treewackers web page. New riders are always welcomed and they will GLADLY show you the trail system. Just check your ego at the door or be prepared to be called out on it! Hard to find a better group of guys who are all SOLID riders with a true passion for riding and good fun. Hope the TE qualifies as a trial bike, one nice thing about a plated bike , you can run to the beer store. Seriously during the 4th of July weekend last summer the Kalkaska Sherrif was dinging ($150) people who happend to be on sections of trail that require sec of state vehicles. The plated TE's eliminate the worry and can jump on the roads in a pinch, which are mostly dirt up north. Down state by me there are lot of dirt roads that can be explored on weekends with very little trafic

In the 5 years or so I have been trail riding, I have seen the sheriff once at the Frederic trail head and I have yet to see a dnr officer(knock on wood). The sheriff was pretty cool. Never even got out of his truck. Just asked how we were doing and if we were enjoying the ride.
