  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

125-200cc husky newbie

me and the mrs have bought a fixer upper bungalow (with a mancave, garage) so have'nt been able to pay as much attention to the bike as i'd like but as it stands at the moment i did try juicypips advice and turned the screw to the side of the idle speed thumb screw, my carb has this screw the piston side rather than the airbox side and it seems to have made a difference, the bike goes lovely to point, when i get up to top speed, which is'nt very high, another issue i have to sort out is the sprockets got 14 on the front and 50 on the back which gives me a dreadful top speed of 45mph, still have a bog down in fifth with the throttle wide open but wind it back a bit and runs fine, i've noticed i have a strong smell of petrol coming from the bike even with the tap turned off and no noticable leaks from any where also when the choke is full on and i start the bike it revs it's tits off to the point where i have to turn it off straight away and use the throttle to warm the bike up
it's looking likely that i'll have to take it to a good mechanic i've used in the past to cast his eye over it as i don't have the confidence to tackle carbs they're a bit of the dark arts for me, i'll let you know how things turn out

Thats too lean on the start circuit or airscrew, wind the screw back out or increase your pilot jets size.

Start the bike, let it warm up then adjust the screw with the bike running, you can blip the throttle and hear when its crips and non boggy.
The bike shouldnt rev up when starting thats too lean.
If you rev the bike and the rev hangs before returning to idle thats too lean.
If you rev the bike and it stutters then takes off thats too rich.

You want to get fuel/airscrew right before riding it.
Get a setting your happy with, go for a ride and try constant throttle say 25-30mph not many 2strokes like tgis if it surgers and pops under you your too rich, like wise on roll off decelaration.
Should be a crisp note
If she crackles like fireworks shes too lean.
Either way take carb slide out and move the circlip on your needle.
circlip one notch higher will lean mid out
Circlip one notch lower will richen mid up

Its not a dark art its learning to hear what the engines telling you and adjusting.
Make sure your airfilters not blocked and you have no air leaks anywhere.
Let us know how you get on with that then i will tell you about main jet changing.

No problem, theres a thread about jetting in the twostroke section think its on the forst page under 2 strokes its highlitef in red lots of info in there if your willing to trawl through on a wet night in.

hi all, sorry about the delay, been a bit hectic the last couple of months, unfortunately had to admit defeat and take the bike to a professional who quickly diagnosed the problems with the bike, oil pump was knackered( lucky in that i did'nt do any damage as i never got far before the bike started playing up) and the cdi unit was kaput just for good measure as well, parts have been ordered from husky sport, and bike should be up and running in time for a xmas rideout, once again many many thanks juicypips and gaz for help and advive
